You will find in a few weeks time you will be more used to your truck.

The fact that you are not being a know it all and that you are asking questions tells me you will do just fine.

I find the key to being a successful driver is applying common sense to everything you do.

IE if you are unsure if you are ok backing up, get out and look.

Longer Wheel base on the tractor means wider turning radius.

That being said as long as you stay willing to listen to experienced drivers, you will do just fine, although you will need to have a well tuned BS filter. If something doesn't sound right get a second opinion from a source you trust.

Alley Dock is a type of docking. Not necessarily a style dock. However, I run across instances of needing to do an alley dock on a somewhat regular basis. It involves backing into a dock that is neither long enough to hold a full truck, nor deep enough for you to straighten your tractor to the trailer. Usually the dock is about 50 feet deep, perpendicular to the narrow street or alley. You jacknife the trailer into the dock with your tractor hanging out before God and everybody, usually blocking the alley or roadway.
    Not uncommon at all.
I suspect the poster was originally talking about everyday backing such as in a truck stop. The schools call it Alley Docking.
    Truckers call it, *&%$*&#.

:biggrin_2554: Hi, okay i got thinking about this, but when i was working for us express awhile back , they were just get started putting camers on the right side above the fuel tank, i myself would think that would confuse me too back up with that, but that not the reason there on there for and there on there ,to elmate the blind side, but i know drivers will try too use it too back up with :biggrin_25512:

Backing is like shooting baskets-you can't tell anyone how to do it, just have to keep doing it, and suddenly it will "click". But as others have said, no one does it perfect every time.

I drove Centurys, FLD's, and set back axle 9400's for years and years, and even if I do say so myself, was getting almost perfect. Looked forward to tight spots, LOL.

Got into a long nose Pete, and it was a circus. :( Give me 40 acres, and I couldn't get it in without 100 pull ups. After awhile, I've gotten much better, and don't embarrass myself too often.

Recently, the Pete was in the shop for awhile, and I was put into a Volvo, and it was a circus all over again for a couple of days.

Long post just to say, "You will adapt."

Here's another thing, if ur ever at a truckstop and u got some room practice practice practice. Practice limited space backs ( try not to practice bagging near someones truck). If ur at a customer ask for help. No offense but try an find guys who have been driving for awhile a rookie helping a rookie isnt much help.
