don't believe everything you read on the internet. people tend to talk about the big checks they get. or gross averages for the month. couldn't be farther from the truth. driver can make $1200 take home checks occasionally. freight isn't always there to give a big check all the time. so where one week freight is great. the next it's bad. so I will say. right now average pay is tapering at $450 a week for drivers.which makes drivers very cranky and questioning keeping the job. the big checks depending on which part of the career field you in. works by seasons. dry van reefer won't start taking off until the holidays. and after Christmas it dies out. then it comes and goes in spurts. that's how the pay works in the industry. for me the owner, the brokers, and the drivers, along with lumper companies and various businesses that are apart of trucking.

Sorry not being a dick or maybe you work for a lousy company. I never had a 450$ check while OTR. Maybe 550$ on a short go home week. You WILL NOT average 1000$ per week if your goal is to get home as fast as possible

$450 average? Oh boy. I just turned down a company that would pay me $500 a week for 7 weeks for training. Because I can't take that paycut. If you're making less than training wage.. Perhaps a different company is the way to go. At least for OTR. I've had a couple checks that were under $800 and if those become the norm, it's time for a new company. No reason someone should be spending weeks at a time away from home and making less than a part time gig at a local Mickey D'd would pay.

Trucking doesn't have to be your calling. People mine coal not because they've always had a dream of going down a hole in the ground with a flashlight, but because it pays the bills.

The world will always need jobs that almost anyone can be trained to do in 3 weeks. There is nothing wrong with doing this job as a transition to something else, or to ward off starvation & homelessness until you find another way. Not every job has to be a profession or permanent. That doesn't mean you should act like less than a professional while you do it.

My sleeper berth is my "man cave". It's where I can watch movies on my laptop or TCB (Take Care of Business) sleeping to be ready for my next load. With the refrigerator or cooler stocked I am self sufficient, ready and able to take a break anywhere and enjoy life.

All of us that got into trucking came from different backgrounds. Use what you have learned to apply to this job. Cross training is a popular concept in fitness. It applies to all of life.

i use to make $1850 to $2705 every 8 days as a company driver. that was just the starting pay for drivers then. that pay is gone thanks to the big fleets milling and killing people. now about every fleet out there is treating the trucks like housing. instead of a truck and a job. thought you should know how bad the industry has gotten.
