    Hey new drivers.

If you're starting out your new OTR adventures, just thought I'd post some truth to you.

1: home "every weekend" is mostly lies. Or you're not making any money. You can make money or be home weekends, but usually not both. If you really need to be home a lot, you picked the wrong career unless a minimum wage job sounds like a good deal to you.

There are local jobs out there that pay $14 an hour for 14 hour days. -You'd be better off with McDonalds.

If you want to make money as a noob, you are NOT going to be home every weekend.

I work for a company that will put you home every ten-12 days, and they are the exception, not the rule.

You will NOT make incredible money. At best, you'll make good money, for insane hours and long weeks away. At worst you'll make less than the guy asking you if you want fries with your order.

Do the job because you like the JOB, not because some lying recruiter told you stories.

And if a company is offering you a lease in a ?150k truck? Ask yourself if a bank would loan you to buy a $150k house. If not, you're about to get fleased.

    That is all.

You need a company with more pay, more miles, and more home time.

If my local Micky Ds was offering $79K, I'd be home every night. Until then, I'll settle for the weekends.

Last guy I trained for Prime quit just after his training was done because he was offered a job pulling an end dump , bringing home 900 to 1100 a week home everynight and off on the weekends he had less then 3 months experience when he landed that gig

Know pleny of folks that refused to sacrifice their family, health, and personal life by doing that otr garbage and started off driving local. They seem to me doing ok with the time off.

    Allow me improve that:

There are plenty of trucking jobs where pay is not based on miles driven. You can be paid hourly or by percentage.

Everybody wants and/or needs something different from the job. It's not ALL about money, and not everybody has family that needs to be tended to. In fact, some choose NOT to pay rent or mortgage and being gone is better then being at a home that does not exist.

Hard to fault a driver for wanting a home life, and it's hard to fault a driver for wanting to stay out for long periods. Whatever floats their boat. But generally speaking, it is sort of flawed thinking to want to be paid more to sit at home more. As a general rule, to expect more wage revenue, you must expect to work harder, longer, or smarter. But at least one of those adverbs must come into play. And there is no getting around this basic life truth.
