Yup company i am leased to has a fuel discount card thats pretty decent. Typically $0.50 cents less then the posted price. And ive seen as much as a dollar lower. When i gotta pay out of pocket however i dont get the discount. How much the discount is varies store to store and day to day though.
Yup started in virgina this morning and had to go through PA to get across towards MI the price in VA was $5.80. I get into PA fuel is $6.22. i get to ohio and just paid $4.69 a gallon at a little bitty ma and pa which was the cheapest on route. I always make sure to go where its cheap.
Why is chain TS diesel $1/gal MORE than svc plazas @ NY turnpike?

When I did OTR they only let us fuel at pilot. Maybe they’re just milking companies like thst

Raise the price and give a discount. Typical marketing tactic that makes people feel special when they aren’t really doing anything.
someone here once said the reason for a price difference was because of the equipment used in truck stops to fill tanks is different than the ones used in civilian stops.
Trucking companies do the same, price increases for specialized equipment.bryan21384, Magoo1968 and Sirscrapntruckalot Thank this. -
A better comparison would be like buying a new car. The sticker price says say $100,000 but the dealer gives you all these discounts on it so you walk away paying $85K thinking you got a good deal all while the dealer just made 20k then turns around and sells your old beater he paid $800 for puts new oil in it then sells it at $4500 and does the same tactic to a young kid that buys it for $3800 thinking he got a good deal. -
Actually not a bad comparison. The theory is what matters. Both require different equipment. Gas stations vs truck stops. 1 pump vs 2, convenience of parking, and other things.
IE a hot shot vs a class 8 flat bed for the same load. Rate difference on the required equipment is there.
In other words it’s ok for truckers to raise the rate for the required equipment but not truck stops. On top of that you’ve seen majority of truckers? Slobs I tell you.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
As for truckers being slobs....your preaching to the quior there. Actully had an out of towner see my rig parked infront of the farm i live at and back in beside it. Not a big deal because our road deadends so we own it up to the blacktop. And we dont care if someone stops there because a few locals have used it before....or at least didnt care. ####### threw all his trash on the ground including several bags full of ####....yes several. Swept his trailer out on the ground leaving nails and bits of wood down for our sheep to get into or ruin our tires, then left a #### right infront of our mailbox on the ground and then ran over our drainage pipe and crush it on the way out costing us most of a day to dig it up and replace it as well as a few hundred dollars. We now have a gate up and dont let anyone park there we dont know.InTooDeep, Sirscrapntruckalot and LoneRanger Thank this. -
Another factor is price fluctuations and what the fuel in the ground cost when they had it delivered. Fuel has been all over the place. I looked up that Fultonville TA on the NASTC app and see the discount ain't all that great. What stood out is the price today is 13¢ higher than tomorrow's. Lower volume mom & pops could go either way depending on what their last fuel delivery and the next one may cost. Lately I'm guessing that could be quite a spread.
