This, plus NY is one of five states as of several years ago, that adds sales and/or excise tax to the commercial diesel pumps. Others were GA, IL, CA, and I forget the fifth one. I'm sure I've posted the list here before, so search may reveal the mystery fifth state.

Wholesale fuel cost isn't much different state to state. Maybe a 20-25¢ spread. The reason for the 50¢ a gallon price jumps from OH to PA then again PA to NY is most certainly state sales and excise taxes jacking up the pre-IFTA price.

Beats me. I'm new AF, so maybe I'm screwing up somewhere, but I usually end up paying 250-300 a qtr. I do run a lot of miles though.

Back in the summer there was noticeable differences in regional fuel prices. Pretty even now across the states with the exception of PA and Cali

If you save $1000 a quarter on fuel price but pay a extra $250 on ifta you’re doing it right

If you run in a small circle then figuring out what States are cheaper can work to your advantage

If you run all over the USA then it usually ends up being a wash
I run all over. Don’t pay much attention to that unless Im going to like California, I will fill up in Arizona
I usually pay $50 or get $50 back with ifta but I think guys who live in places like Missouri and run regional have a better chance to even things out in their favor

Another place is Virginia. They've got a killer surcharge on top of their regular tax, but fuel is cheap. In other words, if you drive in Virginia, you'd better grab some fuel there too!

At least in Illinois, fuel price at service plazas are regulated based on the cost for the plaza to acquire fuel. Local stores can adjust prices as they see fit while the service plaza cannot until they buy more fuel.

As fuel costs rise, the gap between price points narrows. If fuel prices rise fast enough, the service plaza can actually be a cheaper option. Back in 2004, for about a week it was cheaper for my dad to get on the tollway just for fuel. Waste of time, but cheaper. As fuel prices drop, service plaza prices stay much longer.

A 6 hr old roller dog....now that makes a trucker out of you. My rule of thumb is that if it's cooked that day, it'll do. For the newbies, if your stomach gets upset from that hours old roller item, remember one thing: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
