Why is country music stereotypically synonymous with trucking?

You obviously have no problem extending the blame for all the woes your generation supposedly inherited, so you should also extend gratitude for all the benefits your generation inherited.

Where were boomers during the McCarthy Era? Where were they in the 60s as those Marxists that escaped the Era marched through our institutions?

Ugh. I just wanted to discuss music choices and such. Got my answers and while I do agree with most of them, it seems like it's all deteriorated into a side discussion about the usual generational divide and politics.

I know I never I saw eye to eye with all the "boomers" that trained me in the 2000s. We had our spats in regards to many of the differences contained above. But the arguments never got so heated that it got in the way of training.

Filters got turned on, game faces engaged, and the lot of us just got out there and did the trainer-student shuffle. It took me a little longer than most. But I kept returning and rehoning. I was a loner and a social reject and while getting a college degree in something might've gotten me a paycheck, it probably would've never helped me in other areas of life(honestly, I envisioned the job hopping and black-balling would've been much worse if I got chased out of every nursing, teaching, or engineering job I went for depending on what degree I ever ultimately decided on. Probably be broke and working fast food with an expensive framed piece of paper. Worth gold in my mind, worth nothing to everyone else).

I've had plenty of differences with the boomers as an older millennial. But I listened to them enough and jotted down the important points for later in life. Not exactly rich, but not exactly broke and destitute either. Still alone in life, but not dealing with child support issues or other domestic drama. Growing up and being raised by boomer parents and other random persons from that era taught me enough through my formative and later years to survive a little better than most.

So yeah, music, politics, and tech choices vary. But every generation has something that could be taken from it and put to use.

Tell you what, give me 10 good goods and services, societal norms or excellent institutions or policies begun 1980 through now. Boomers begin 1945, so add 35 years before they start having the reins of power/economy, millenials, oldest is barely 40, weve not really DONE anything yet.

    Ill give you a freebie,

    1. widespread household ac is nice

that would be the ones born in the 60’s, they learned about burning bras and gave us 2000’s and on. When they grew up and since the “burning the bra” era stuck to them, they in turn gave the US kids that had been spared the rod and taught them they are special and should get participation trophies as well as degrees in arts not sciences, and that being a tradesmen/women is a no good career.

Believe me, me renting out my house in no way put you in the poor house.

“stupid”multiplies faster and so does “poor” couple that with certain teachings and you have the Greatest Generation -> to this crap we must endure.

Ever immigrant family that I know has been able to build wealth within the 30 years they have been here, some 10 years in. Yet we have people who are here 10 generations talking about how they can’t make it here and the rules are unfair.

    Do what the immigrants do.

    Dont have kids before marriage.
Marry someone who has the same drive as you.
Work hard and save for your kids to be one step ahead.
Instill in your kids the same philosophy and don’t spare the rod and don spoil them with everything. Teach em to be hungry and they will figure out how to survive.

Amen! I've got old customers who came here from all over the world, and I consider them all friends. Many came to escape political retribution, some socialism, etc.

All different makes and models, came here from conditions we probably can't fathom, and all are very successful.

Yet here at home, folks sit on their @sses blaming everyone else, all while wondering who's gonna take care of their problems.

    Disgusting

First of all, where do you live that widespread household A/C didn't become a thing until the 80s or thereafter? I grew up in Texas (born in 1978) and I've never seen a house in this state without central A/C, an evaporative cooler, or window units. But I can remember visiting Seattle in the mid 90s and our 4-star hotel didn't have air conditioning, much to our surprise.

    Here we go:

    1. the fall of the Iron Curtain

    2. the US victory in the Cold War

    2. the nomination and confirmation of the first female Justice of the Supreme Court

    3. tax cuts, job growth including an over 50% reduction in black unemployment, a 12% increase in family income, and inflation reduced to less than 4.4% during the Reagan administration - and even greater economic prosperity during the Trump administration

    4. cordless phones and then later cell phones, computers, the internet, VCRs, DVD players, streaming services, cassette tapes, CDs, Walkman, Discman, MP3s, gaming consoles, digital cameras, GPS, and countless other technological advances

    5. music videos

    7. new music genres were created while existing genres underwent transformations

    8. medical advances such as HIV treatments, statins, diagnostic MRIs and ultrasounds, medical lasers, treatments and vaccines for hepatitis B and C, functional prostheses,

    9. the defeat of the "fairness doctrine" in media

    10. The Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 is enacted.

    11. direct fuel injection, electronic ignition, front wheel drive, AWD, etc.

    12. the phase-outs of unleaded gasoline, lead paint, CFCs, PCBS, asbestos, R-12 refrigerant, etc.

    13. 3-D printing

    14. wireless remote controls

    15. air bags, crumple zones, widespread implementation of ABS, and other automotive safety advances

    16. radiant barriers, low-e windows

    17. horizontal drilling, particularly when combined with multi-stage hydraulic fracturing

    18. air ride

    19. DC v Heller and the spread of constitutional carry

    20. the Space Shuttle, the Hubble Telescope, and the International Space Station

There's 20, several of which have multiple items listed and numerous other unlisted. Pick your favorite ten.

cuz country music song content generally is whining and moaning about just about anything or just being able to deal with the task at hand
