A 200 mile trip should pay the day rate for the truck, providing that it is loaded and unloaded the same day, as far as I am concerned.
Dino soar, Rideandrepair, Farmerbob1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Rideandrepair Thanks this.

My day rate would not apply in the lower 48, but I do not back out of the shop for less than 1000.
Which is 7 hours pay if I am running around by the hour.
UNLESS I am in my log truck, rates are cheap for them and 1000 is a good day, but I just can't help but run it, can't explain it.
I have turned down a lot of 4000 dollar loads to go to the woods knowing I will only gross 1500 in the same time frame. lol It costs less, to run but that doesn't make up for it either, it is some sort of disease. lolRideandrepair, Midwest Trucker and LoneRanger Thank this. -

I do not run for a 1000 a day, but that is what it would take to run a short run.
Right now I am hauling general oil field freight, but sometimes I even pull a side or belly dump, and I used to pull tankers hauling hot oil, but they dropped the rates some, so that went away.
On good jobs I will run a 1000 or a little better with my log truck, but seems like there are a lot more that I can just do 7 or 800 a day, but they are not very long days either.
Dirt jobs pays 135 to 145 an hour here in town, more if out of town, and many of them run 12 hour days.
The very best dirt pay I have had was a day rate of 1800 running on their fuel and with their trailer. I would have loved to have had a whole summer of that job. even though I had to live in the truck for it. lolRideandrepair Thanks this. -
I see social media stories about fleets doing well on contracts with Amazon (that I do not believe) but for every story like that there are 10 more of carriers ditching them tired of getting burned on cancellations and other constant BS. There is a huge amount of BS to their system simply booking the ad-hoc loads you have to utilize an app for a gazillion little details.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
I have a friend running a small fleet (3 trucks) exclusively for amazon, that has done well, as always that is subject to change.
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
