Why is everyone complaining about the rates?

Portland? Are you sure that you didn't visit the Fire Taco stand next to the PFJ in Aurora? I eat there every time I stay. Had a carnitas burrito last week. Currently I'm in Nebraska where good Mexican food doesn't exist, and I'm having withdraws.

I'm one of those guys who got in last year with all new equipment. So far I'm doing good, but I can see how easily some could be starving now. I planned and had clients in a niche market set up before I bought my equipment, and they're staying with me. I charge them a fair price that doesn't look outrageous when somebody else calls them to undercut me. They know I'll get the job done right for them. I do have to find backhauls though, and that expensive DAT membership is completely useless. I post my truck, I call brokers, and it's all very hit and miss. The brokers don't want to negotiate at all, and I haven't developed any kind of relationship with a broker yet. They aren't interested in repeat business it seems. They only are interest in moving the load on their screen for cheap then move on.

I have been scoring some good paying loads on Convoy and Uber. You have to wade through tons of crap listings before a gem shows up, and be prepared to jump on it or somebody else will. I'm delivering a load in Minnesota on Saturday for my best client, and made good enough money on it that I almost considered dead heading home, but common sense prevailed and I found a $2.25 per mile load heading back to California next Tuesday, so I'll be spending memorial day in my truck doing a reset. I did bring my little American flags to hang in my windows.

Wait until you have a older MC. Broker... What’s your MC number? Oh man. Yeah you’re not gonna want this load. Happens almost every week.

Yeah but those of us with new MC's automatically get the extreme newbie sucker rate that I'm sure works for them more often than not. If you want to piss off a broker, ask them to quote a rate and refuse to give your MC. I've tried it a couple times, and they refuse.

Man that's what i feel with DAT loadboard. Today I was looking at it. I call several agent, nobody even want to go according to the market fair rate, they would like to cut it few hundred dollars below the average. I found it is hard to get a load that is above 1.5 dollars right now going out from Los Angeles, California... My father's truck is an old truck so he is not willing to haul more than 30000 pounds. I don't know if that is a factor. I wonder how much a dispatch can give you the dollar/mile rate including the dead head...

There are already very limited choices, and not going over 30,000 pounds would make it almost impossible to find a good load. You might want to expand your search to northern California and DH up there if you find something. I think the freight pays a little more up there heading east.

I'm just curious what does an old truck have to do with hauling something that weighs more than 30k? What would hauling 10k more do when your already at 30k....???

Plenty of old trucks out here pulling weight....

I guess he is worried that it would break the truck and it is not worth it to pay thousands to fix the truck.
