When I started things were great and easy to get 2-5 bucks per mile on short runs but so far this week I am having a hard time getting 2+ per mile. I have been booking loads within 600 miles or so and its hard. Last load I booked was 600 loaded miles with about 50 DH miles for $1300 and thats after I spent half a day trying to get something better. Wtf??? It seems like the brokers are on to me because thats all I mostly do is 100-500 mile runs which always paid ok. I am hoping its only this week as I am desperate to book a load. Tomorrow morning I will have 2 trucks empty by 8am and I am sweating this already.

Emco everybody is starting to eat at the same table. The freight is scarce you are being under bid. You have to expand your horizon, hopefully things work out for.

It's really tough. Most of these short hops are being used for back hauls for guys for cheap. Typically when a 600 mile run would pay $1900 for example, guys didn't worry too much about short runs, but now it's too many guys sitting, and $1900 on 600 dry van load is hard to come by, so they take the little short runs for whatever just to cover cost while waiting on a good paying load instead of being stuck at the truck stop. You're not the only one having problems.
