Maybe he loves you enough to take out his frustrations on the truck instead of your head.

I saw a guy bobtailing. Stopped, released his fifth wheel lock, hopped up on the rails and slid it buy (gloved) hand as easy as sliding a manhole cover! Maybe easier.

He got it in the notch he wanted with barely any effort. If I ever need to move my fifth wheel I am going to use that method.

The old man probably has never slid a stinking fifth wheel, because he knows how to load it proper, taking away the need for the slide. So maybe he lets his kid load it, and the idiot kid puts too much up front, creating a need to slide the fifth wheel.

But hey, what do I know? It amazes me how you are alive today, since your Dad breaks everything. You must have a lot of broken bones, with that idiot picking you up when you couldn't even walk yet.

My old man drove trucks a long time. Even when I did get to the point that I thought I was better at it than him, I still told everyone he could run circles around me, even though this was a lie. I was just trying to make up for all the times he told me as a kid how good I was at something, when I knew in my heart I sucked at it. My Dad died almost 2 years ago, and if he was here, he would still be running circles around me in trucking. At least that would be my story, and I would be sticking to it.

A friend of mine had his Dad die when he was just 8 years old. I bet you he would have given anything to be sitting in a truck with him, when he was old enough to drive a truck. You are a lucky person to have a Dad that is there with you, instead of being too busy to bother with you.

I could go on like this for a long time, but I guess a smart young fella like yourself has gotten my point by now.

Sliding a fifth wheel in a loaded truck is (or can be) a pain in the rear no matter how many rules and tricks you use.. a good reason that a lot of the companies have fixed fifth wheels and also have removed other useful tools that professionals used and knuckleheads abused. there are companies that have eliminated the trailer hand valve for the same reasons.. misuse!
