My last company because of the old trks I had a heck of a time sliding the fifth wheel even with help.Tried only a couple times with this company. Finally came to the conclusion that fifthwheel is staying right where it is and never slide it again.,lol.

My Father went blind in one eye and only 30% in the other. 1 month before he passed away he still was able to renew his driver licences. Blind I seen him drive perfect through Athens Ga through 4 other small towns back home. He did not drive OTR but wanted to but he could drive a Truck better than anyone I seen. For 8 years since he passed away, I still miss him dearly, but when I look at my past, I see his dream come true through my self. He wanted to go into the Military, but health said no, he wanted to Drive over the road, But would not leave his family. I lived out his dream for him. I found out that I did months before he died. I miss his stories, stories where he had to go pull a part of Crusher up the mountain and another truck from another company could not, he had to go back down and pull it up the mountain. We called him Pop after my oldest Niece started calling him that, so I would always say Pop, Tell me about the good ole Days.

You are right about the abused and the trailer hand break abused. The tractor that i bought used from schneider national came without that hand trailer. I will install one int the future but i remember a guard and a customer telling me that when he used to drive trucks, he would go down to the mexican border and drop the trailer in a yard, a mexican truck driver would hook to the trailer, load it couple of miles in Mexico, then bring it over the border. He told me that the Mexicans did not used their pedal break when pulling a American trailer, all they used was the trailer hand break and he had to used his wrench to adjust his trailer breaks before reaching the mountains later on. So yes, that abused of using that hand break cost the companies alot of money in break pads that dint last long because of overused of the hand brake. You guys are talking about how difficult is to move a fifth wheel loaded? try sliding a container loaded!

A few years ago i had to slide my 5th wheel while parked facing downhill after dumping my air when the weight was transferres to the landing gear my tractor starts rolling downhill....scared the hell out of me i thought both units were rolling away while i watched from outside, lol...it hit th 5th wheel stops just before i pulled the parking brake.

I hadnt moved the 5th wheel in a couple years so I was really surprised it slid so easily.

Heres a tip for getting the 5th wheel where you want it the first time.

Find a piece of rebar thin enough to fit between the slots in your 5th wheel locks and wide enough to fit on both sides, count the # of slots that you want it to be moved to drop the rebar in the slots then move it til it stops, flip the lock button tnen move whichever way locks the dogs.

Despite the correct method it sounds like the seed didn't fall far from the tree. :)

It's also and American O/O trick when pulling company trailers.. and its dangerous, but they'd never admit to every doing it. One trip into Mexico isn't really going to add to squat when the trailer is being abused for 95 % of the time by good old Merikans

And I also pulled rail "pigs" out of the Oakland railhead.. you were not allowed to work on their trailers on their property.. but I would not take one of those junkheaps out of their yard without a thorough inspection including a brake adjust.. Several times I adjusted bad brakes to get out, pull forward and find that the brakes didn't work at all.. missed a lot of loads that way, but once you pull one of those junkers out of their yards (containers / chassis also) all repairs that you'd caught with during inspection is yours (your company's) responsibility to repair. Far too many drivers make their companies repair the junk that they willingly pull out of these yards..

You have a bad attitude, You should never disrespect you father, let alone on a public forum. What a terrible son you are he should disown you. I hope your father never reads this. You are a real jerk. And guess what you are going to turn into your father the person that your hateful comments are about, and soon you will be just like him. I hope you receive everything you deserve/
