Yes, my thinking was a different and newer system might work better. Also a smaller netbook would be handier. The main thing I want to use it for is the eclipse log program. The large and heavy hp I have is not so handy.

i bought a smaller screen once. went back to 15 inches. hated the smaller screen.

you've had the laptop for a year. you've might have some viruses. trojans, spamware. slowing it down.

i have all the updates on my win 7 dell. Boots in under a min. I norm use hibernate though insted of turning off. It turns the system completely off, but when you turn it back on, its just like you left it. You dont need to reload all your programs. I just hibernated which took 25 sec to shut down. I then turned back on which took 24 seconds. Was able to turn off computer and resume without loosing this post in under a min.

I run with a 1 year old "gamer class" laptop (Windows 7) I use for video/photo editing and management and it will run in suspend mode for a week or more and barely run down the battery level. Comes up to a useable state and reconnects to wifi in about 8 seconds after raising the lid and will rarely shut it off or reboot it. But even if I do, it will come up to log on screen in maybe 20 seconds. It's custom built 17 inch with an i7 and NVidia GTX670mx.

I've found Firefox browser to be faster and more efficient then Internet Explorer if that's what you're using. But you have to keep them "clean" and remove ALL the unnecessary garbage you don't use. Or scrub the disk and reload the OS with a minimal install (just the basic OS) then don't ever load any software you're not sure you're going to use regularly. Don't like something recently installed? remove it immediately.

    Richter Thanks this.

yea i run similar specs, but my fanis bad and its over heating. i had to diable the nvidia and use the integrated chip which means no gaming untill i fix it. Either way, suspend or hibernate is the way to go.

Service packs. Man I don't miss Windows and all the headaches that came with it. Been an Apple guy since 2007 and never once regretted it.
