I have two friends who just got new Petes. One is a 379 and the other is a 387. both trucks came from the factory with the DEF tank on the right side. Why is this when every other manufacturer is putting it on the drivers side. Plus, all of the truck stops are equipping their pumps with the DEF on the drivers side. Seems dumb to me. That's enough to make me not buy a Pete. Even Kenworth has it on the drivers side. Don't they want to sell trucks? I guess we're going to start seeing Petes going backwards through the fuel islands on a regular basis. Bad planning there.
Why is Peterbilt backwards?

They may have been spec'ed for another customer and the deal fell though? -
I see them all the time on truck paper both kw and Pete's have the def tank on either side.
Like stated above, it depends who orders them. You can choose which side you want the tank on and I believe there's 3 different sizes of tanks you can choose from too.

I guess, since I keep hearing warnings and postings on our PeopleNet about driver's putting DEF in the fuel tanks by accident, maybe Peterbilt is trying to give a driver a little time to think?
Every DEF dispenser I've seen at a pump location is on the Driver's side. If you actually have to go in and pick up DEF, you might not accidentally pour it into a fuel tank. Sounds pretty smart, if you ask me.DrtyDiesel Thanks this. -

The 379 was ordered special right down to the tires and paint. The 387 was ordered by his company, but I would assume they were never asked. I know in the case of the 379, it came as a total surprise to him. His older truck didn't have DEF, and he didn't even think about it until he bought the truck home and I asked him about it. Now he's trying to find a way to run a fill tube to the drivers side. He is an intelligent driver with over 40 years experience. I'm sure if they mentioned it to him, he would have opted for it on the drivers side. Now he has to run to pay for the truck, and he cannot just give it back. Had he known, he never would have accepted delivery on it. It's too late now. My friend with the 387 said he's just going to go backwards through the fuel lanes when he needs to fill it up. Seems crazy to me. It should be the same on all trucks.

Our 389 has DEF tank on driver's side. I know that you can specify when ordering the truck which side to put it on. So its on the person doing the order
