Either way I don't think that's a perfect example, but I would prefer a camera watching the front of my truck. Case and point today when I was out with my road instructor just watching the idiots try and dodge the truck like it's going to give them herpes. I just don't understand why the world got in such a hurry to wait.
Why most of us should use dashcams

i'm sure glad he had video to prove he was 100 % NOT at fault. don't think the judge would agree.

When the typical motorist sees traffic stopped for no apparent reason they assume they're stopped for no reason. Lucky this time it wasn't a 5 year old running from Mom.
People do not discern how much of their motoring is performed with woefully inadequate sight lines. -
If you're going to have a dashcam don't do stupid crap and then post it for all to see!!

I think it is plain nuts to not have a dashcam. If you are a O/O it is one more protection for your business. There are too many smooth lawyers out there that will try to rip us off because of their client having deeper pockets. If you have video proof. It will be hard to dispute when there is video evidence. I wonder how long till the insurance industry gives a discount for having it installed.

I had this happen to me in my car in 2000; I was driving an 87 Celebrity, the 78 yr old was driving a new car. She turned just like that, an illegal turn for her at the time, she thought the turn signal was broke and decided to turn. I totaled her car pretty much due to the sidebag air curtains in it and it got her about the rear tires. I had already slowed down to about 30 in a 45 just in case because I could not see around the coke truck in the left turn lane on my side, good thing I did.
I don't think he would have noticed the slowed down traffic that much in the left lane until it was too late, he was in a car with a lower line of sight than a semi would have. Also the blue lights may have not been seen till too late, the van had already done his turning into the intersection. What was such an emergency that border patrol had to be cruisin with lights on anyway and not watching either.Last edited by a moderator: May 9, 2015

Was not an emergency vehicle. It was a customs and border protection van. They do not have the authority over traffic the way police, fire and ambulances have.ReconCornelius Thanks this.

Two observations:
Was the 911 operator stoned? The ability to speak clearly and enunciate should be a requirement for that position I would think.
Also, the way the camera flipped up to capture the grill flying through the air was PERFECT!ReconCornelius and Infosaur Thank this. -
I think comprehension seemed to be the operators problem. Driver had to keep repeating himself.
Funny how a regular sedan was able to put the big van, likely a one ton chassis, on its side. Not very stable.bergy Thanks this. -
Fire, police, and ambulances do not have the right of way. The lights and sirens are attention getters. I do not enter an intersection when running hot against a light without a complete stop and then move slowly watching ALL traffic.
The driver of an emergency vehicle is subject to the motor vehicle laws, and can be ticketed when moving against a light.
