So anytime see an ad for truck driver it's always with the side note, "NO EAST COAST". I have traveled out to the east coast many times but never drove a truck out there. So what's so bad about the east coast that employers have to put it in their ad? I'm guessing it has something to do with narrow roads, short bridges and many no trucking routes and all the traffic near NYC and DC.
Am I missing anything?
Why "No East Coast"?

what i dont like about east coast is no place to park--and seem to sit waitiing for a load--it is pretty congested and some less than truck friendly places to load -i dont do nyc tho--a person has to have some morals

I take it this is why most people like to run out west or down south, but doesn't each region have it's own problems? I take it east coast just takes the cake. -
Some of the best money I have made was on the east coast BUT i didnt do nyc or longisland. But have been all over the rest and dont mind it but not crazy about it either
rocknroll nik Thanks this. -
I would have to say to the OP take Chicago and multiply the hassle factor by 10. I dont like doing California but I would rather drive there than NY,or Jersey. And I hate Philly, I was waiting at one of drop yard there when the bullets started flying between cops and a gang. I hauled my sorry axx outta there really really fast when that started up.

I've been up and down I 95 more times than I'd like, except when in Maine. I don't like congestion and self appointed important people any more than the next guy. But it's part of the job. You deal with it. I am always glad to get away from ANY big city, but I don't let it intimidate me. I just think, tailgate me all you want, cut me off all you want, do whatever you want, this truck isn't going to be unsafe, and you can forget about me losing, if by your own stupidity we meet by accident.
I will say, one of my scariest moments was around the harbour in Boston. As usuall, USX directions were a lot less than desired. I saw a group of maybe six kids in the back of an empty parking lot. I was bobtailed, so drove on over. 0100 in the morning, and very few lights. As soon as I drove up, I realized what they were. A gang, Bloods no less. All but one headed for their cars. I yelled out the window to the one remaining, "Hey man, I'm not looking for trouble, and I don't care what you guys are doing, but could you tell me how to get............". He stood quite a ways back from my truck, and told me how to get where I needed. I thanked him and drove off. I kept as close an eye as I could on them, thinking,"If I see one motion that looks like I'm gonna get gangbanged, this truck will take 'em all out" I was glad to be gone.Dye Guardian Thanks this. -
i live on the east coast but im used to it all, however the parking and truckstops are a complete fail.

The biggest problem with the east coast is LACK of parking for big trucks. As already mentioned most that do exist out there are in pretty bad shape and full of jackarses! The good thing about running out there is that the money is always good going out, not so much coming out of there but hey it's still usually well worth it by the time you average it out. Last time I went up there ( Maine ) I made a full weeks worth of profit on a 1000 mile load going out so it's not all bad. I sat for a day and a half to get a decent paying load coming back out but hey I made enough going in that I would have sat there for a couple more if i had too.
