That's one of the reasons I'm done with new vehicles. That and the fact new vehicles are priced about double what they should be.
Why not doing your own repairs will make you go bankrupt.

If I could buy a brand new 40 year car .. yes .. it would be more reliable than a brand new car ..D.Tibbitt and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Im with you……I have a 14 Silverado and the wife has a 15 Traverse. Both just rolled 100k this year and bought both of them used. Plan on keeping them for another 5-10 years. Even when I upgrade, it most certainly won’t be new.jamespmack, D.Tibbitt, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

Why is it different, take an Old Diesel Pick Up and a new diesel pick up. Also new cars have all sorts of emissions control stuff like a truck does so really it is not that different. I know a newer car will get easily 200K as an older car was hard to get 50-100K.IH9300SBA and Jubal Early Times Thank this.

Agreed, but that is not what the point of his post.Jubal Early Times Thanks this.

I had a 1969 F100 that had major work done on it before 69K that was bought brand new. It was used as a regular driver and also getting firewood. Loved that truck and would love to own another. But it would not out last the last pick up I had that was a 2015 F150 Platinum that I bought brand new. That truck had over 100K with no issues at all. Every car I have owned except one since 2000 has never had any issues. The reliability of a new car is hands down better than an old car. Don't get me wrong on this as I love the older cars and would own one in a heart beat but that is not what I was talking about.IH9300SBA and Jubal Early Times Thank this.

Dad got just under a million miles on his 86 sierra before frame bent . He overloaded that thing with construction tools got stuck everywhere in heavy mud and it kept going and going. Yes it was rusty and took a few junkyard 350’s and transmissions but was reliable as heck .. one simple repair on his newer truck costs more than a engine or transmission in his old one.. lol

While delivering in Florida recently. I noticed that all the Locals picking up feed, half had almost new Dually’s, mostly Ford, a few GM’s. The other half had mid 90’s Dodge’s.
