I understand the way you think and have no problems with it as well. But the engine itself with all the parts minus the emissions have pretty much all been updated to a point. So they are better in a lot of ways and might be worse in other ways. Emissions do not have the same issues as they did so no reason to be afraid of it. Especially If the specs of the transmission and gears are correct for that motor.

My 00 classic with a series 60 will never have a "One box" replaced, let alone 2. So I'm what 20 grand a head in comparison to modern truck with same miles?

And after the first year the fuel saving alone will wipe that $20k “saved” right off the table.

First rig I wheeled full time was a 91 379 with *sarcastic drumroll* a 3406B. 13 speed, 3.70 rears, 270” WB, old air trac suspension etc. My grandfather and I overhauled it the fall of 97, including the pump I know nothing of. Tell me more of my experience that you’re such a knowledgeable person about. Or luck or whatever you want to call it to prop your own ego. I don’t care.

I pass the same curb sniffers you do. Some of them are from defects, most are from neglect. Same as it was 50 years ago. Except back then it would have been an old Jimmy tilted up.

You’d rather deal with an injection pump than an aftertreatment issue. That’s fine. No one is saying you can’t. However, the other way can be true for someone else. Otherwise all new trucks would only have a Big Cam or B model under the hood. You yourself do not have to follow the march of technological progress. But that doesn’t mean it stops without you.

Now, to really bunch your panties up, I’ve only had to wait on a hook once when the ring gear came apart in my rear drive on my 07 W9 at 1.1 mil. Anything else I’ve always ever caught before it was an issue, was able to fix it on spot myself, or able to limp it to the house or a buddy’s spot for a bigger set of tools.

Now me, myself and I don’t run no 230k a year like you. I don’t need to, but run yourself ragged for all I care. I throw down 80-120k, depending on how hot and heavy feeder season gets. I make myself some money and go home. And when I’m home these days, I would much rather wrench on my projects, not my rig. Best way to do that these days for me, buy new and ride to 300k-400k miles and send it down the road to the next operator.

Your operation is different from mine and fits your comfort. Just like my operation is different from yours and fits my comfort. I don’t know what is so difficult for you to acknowledge and understand about that, Christ Almighty.

And probably had new bearings spun in around 200k.
    Both were common back then.
