I actually did spring cleaning this weekend. I probably unloaded 50 pounds of tools and fittings and washers and bolts that I don’t think I will need or have multiples of. I’m the guy that will pick up every washer and bolt he finds laying on the ground. You never know when you need a 1/4 20 bolt or a M12 1.5. Or a stack of flat washers to make a spacer.

Same here. I found an unopened pack of bolts at the fuel island recently. It was like winning the lottery….a sad lottery. I was so happy. Man I really need a life LOL.

I found a nice pair of pliers the other month. I was giddy for the rest of the day.

Thats my biggest worry going from my stretched out t600 with 60 inch midroof down to the stock length 30 inch flat-top t800, no space for my tools.

I have a tackle box with the plastic organizers for the small stuff, nuts/bolts, electrical, air fittings etc

It usually takes me longer to get my tools in/out of the truck then what I’m actually fixing

Your tackle box must be huge

Ive got 4 compartmentalized toolboxes and i still end up with odds and ends elsewhere

Know why I’ll be paying someone? Because the farmer who was the third owner treated it like a tractor as most farmers do. So it’s beat to crap. I could cab swap it but keeping the original cab is important to me. And since I lack the time, tools, and ability to fabricate replacement cab panels I will gladly write a check for that because I want it to be perfect. I will gladly write checks for every part of the project because when I bought the truck it was never my intention to work on it myself. My intention has always been to get it back to how it was when dad drove it off the lot in 1980.

Is there anything else you want to pick apart because I choose to drive a truck as a means to have a relatively truck-free time on my days off?

We run 4 trucks. I can personally do anything bumper to bumper on a mechanical truck, and have in the past. I have come to realize that although I can do a repair, sometimes I am money and time ahead to let somebody else fix it. I often just don’t have time and what time I have is better spent making money in the business while I let somebody else do the repair.

We still do our own tires and brakes, and any other repair that is a simple fix. Like a few weeks ago we had a turbo go down in a truck. Simple enough just to swap the turbo, but when we pulled it into the shop to do it, we discovered that the turbo going down had caused internal engine damage. We put it all back together and sent it out for repair.

We also carry spares and battery impacts to change a tire on the road. It’s mainly a time saver, you can wait hours sometimes for a roadside repair guy to come out.
