Go for it! I think you will do well. Driving does have it's moments, but so does any job, just driving's moments are higher stress moments.
-
When other truck drivers try to discourage you, ask why they still do it. If it's so bad, why aren't they taking their own advice? Those drivers always have some phoney excuse. One told me, "I don't want to give the company the satisfaction of seeing me quit."
There's so many types of trucking to choose from also. For me, I prefer coast to coast. Those drivers that want local or LTL don't understand that, but that's OK, none of my business. I know guys running LTL with Estes, Saia and others and they love the same routine everyday year after year. They know every pothole and road kill on their route they run every day. That's not for me, I want something different every day, a different state every day.
You can handle it; it's not for members of the wuss community though. -

Thanks guys! I'm excited to get started in the morning.

There are as many reasons not to drive as there are reasons to drive. I grew up around diesel smoke and road tar so it was in my blood. I drove reefers, flatbeds and milk tanks through the 70's in all 48 states and most of lower Canada.
I got married and she wanted me home. After getting off the road I got 2 Bachelors degrees and a Masters degree and spent 10 years in Human Services and 20 in computers. Now I'm "retired" and going back to trucking. I cuss the day I ever stopped driving to begin with! The "wife" is and ex and I've worked for so many ########## and jerks its a wonder I haven't shot someone! If you like it you like it! Personally I should never have left!!
Besides, I was making "BIG" money in those days! I started at .2 cents a mile and was getting a dime a mile when I left! LOLPanhandle flash, ScottM and Chinatown Thank this. -
Stay away from the negativity involved with this industry and make your own determination...so many different ways to go in trucking...there is a good spot for you somewhere. Best of luck.

Chinatown Thanks this.
