Nothing wrong with that excepting it locks in a mindset that one can't get $3 a mile or better on every load. It's no different than the mindset of "I can't deadhead more than 50-75 miles between loads" which locks one onto whatever rate the small pool of loads nearby offers - making the broker determine what you roll for. You never think outside of that box and it's what a person ends up settling for. Then some will go so far as to say it's impossible to pull $3 or better on every because they can't no-one can. If you never think you can you never will.
Why oh why are you drivers taking this cheap freight????

Driver I ain't "if doing it" I is doing it. And next year I'm positive I'll hit $2.50 a mile or better to the truck on every mile rolled up. I know I can do it, one means to that end is eliminating 96 miles of deadhead every week, that's an easy one there. I just rolled 100K miles on the clock with F2F last week and every one of them over $2 a mile to the truck. Of course I hauled a lot of cheap stuff in the beginning I did good to average $1.65 off loadboards, was never happy with that, but it was a little better than where I came from... And starting from square one when leasing on here, this all came from loadboards which everyone said was impossible.. I have always been optimistic and ambitious I see no reason at all why things can't or won;t get even better.. If this is a down market I can't wait to see what happens when this country turns a corner... Last year after the holidays I had NO contacts or connections with any decent freight. This year is a whole nother ball game. I expect by Jan 2014 we should even have some contract stuff with some manufacturers, it's only a matter of time. But I still have it in my mind that spot expedite is where the money is at... ...and am not really sure how that works on a contractual basis... It's one thing to tell a broker you need an extra $500 on the $600 he is offering on 200 miles loaded... ...it seems to be another thing altogether when you're asking a customer you deal with face to face who gives you business... I dunno, we'll worry about that when we get there. I fully expect to hit the ground rolling the first week of Jan for the same rates I was getting this 4th Q with one contact in particular.. It may not be as many loads as now, but it will get me by until things really get to going again around late Feb early March... Last year I dreaded Jan because I knew it was an abyss, this year not so much so...
