Why pay Landstar over 30% of the load when you can have 100% with your own numbers?

Here's a case in point of what a good agent does sometimes.
This load isn't the one I wanted. I had booked a load, same agent, all set.
OK. Book another load, excellent money, going great lakes area.
    It loads the 3rd.
Now I planned on lapping up some huge short haul money for 2 days, cause load to GLA is that good.
Dude calls. They pushed it back a week.

    Well, F me to tears.

    BUT

Have this other load. Goes to a government type of place, want it? Pays well. Not really cause now I gotta find filler or DH ( Already got the filler ).
So yea ok I take it.

Not the original plan, but will be pretty much same result.
Just gotta think, and adjust quickly.

    And everyone's happy.

Now I realize some of our esteemed members would somehow charge the guy an extra $5000.
    But I'm not that smart.

I could plan at least 20 trucks, and they would never stop, and still drive my own.

The last 3 weeks I haven't brought home no less than 5k(In my bank account) per week! Even after I put between 900-1000 in my voluntary escrow account with Landstar each week.

Some would say I could put 7-8k per week in my account having those same kind of weeks if I had my own authority.

Heres the thing.....I probably wouldn't have access to the type of loads that I've done if I was some Joe Schmo off the street( and no this isn't a knock on anyone with their own authority)

Yes you hear occasionally about a bad agent or two but, Ive been here 10 years, Ive been through that process of knowing who to haul for and who might burn you. And I assure you that the ones who MAY burn you every driver at Landstar knows about except for those who've yet to be burned. Theres plenty of agents with good freight. You can go months upon months and pull loads daily and not pull for the same agent. It takes awhile to get in good with good agents. You'll find a lot of good freight never hits the board because agents need drivers they can trust too, just like we need agents we can trust.

Landstar is not for everyone just like having your own authority isn't for everyone.

In essence, it looks to me that success at LS is to befriend good agents... Otherwise, you'll perish quick...But which ones are the good ones? The ones I met on load boards were the worst cheap dicks ever..... They give LS bad press...I don't even call them anymore. I would not kiss arse either, if I were to sign up there to Landstar.

Having my own numbers works for me. I just like total independence, I guess I'm spoiled by it. I don't see why people get into pissing contests regarding authority or leasing on. Find your happy spot and live life.
Too many people compare themselves with others, thus living a life of constant frustration.

I tend to work the spot market on the Landstar board. I book on the fly from load alerts coming over the phone. Been doing that for 3 yrs.

I have a few agents that'll call when they have something going on near home. The only consistent freight I see typically does not pay enough and goes someplace I do not want to be.......

Best post ever in this thread.
Yes numbers say it all. Looks good (and that's after their cut?). A few more posts like this and you'll have a quite an influx of step decks at LS. Nice spreadsheet BTW.

In the not kissing ### column, I have had HEATED discussions with 3 of excellent ones I pull for.
All were misunderstandings on both parts, and due to the customers, I still pull for all of them.
Success at Landstar is about not being a moron.
