Why pay Landstar over 30% of the load when you can have 100% with your own numbers?

Do you ever do DUV or CAN loads?

 

some do cabnets from Middlefield ... like the Richmond the take about 4 hrs to unload get 200.00 in detention get there about midnight .. those pill bottles from Millersburg not too bad . I use to do a lot of the garage doors from troy but haven't done them lately

 

I just can't like the agency. I've booked like 3 or 4 loads in a year, and all cancel within 3 or 4 hours. Never even tried one of their mystical multi leg loads, cause I figure that's a suckers play to do the first leg then....... oh gosh it cancelled.
I figure those loads they cancelled were brokered off to an outside carrier so they could make more on them.
I don't even call now, I just disregard their listing as a waste of time.

 

You touched on something that's important. Does the landstar contract require the agents to attempt to cover a load with bcos before looking at broker trucks?

 

I am not sure about that .... those multiple load posts of there's is very agrivating and I haven't seen any that payed all that much and I just skip over them ..... I had a r&l load to Houston booked with them that picked up early Saturday I am only about 8 miles from there terminal in Norwalk that's a decent load 2.40 usually and drop and hook 24/7 on both ends so I booked a load coming out of Texas that was Preloaded and didn't deliver to Nashville on Wednesday morning. so of course can cancelled I got 150 truck ordered not used but still wanted to make the load in Texas I hate cancelling loads anyways the agent from can said he had another load from Wilmington to Dallas (still r /l ) the money wasn't that much different so took that for Saturday noon well I got down to Wilmington about 175 miles away and they told me they cancelled the load Friday morning .. can never called or emailed me there agent said I was not going to be able to get any money because r and l cancelled in time and they were sorry they forgot to tell me ... well I called customer service Monday morning and I did get 100.00 to cover my fuel .... anyways I went to that flying j up at Jeffersonville and ate breakfast an agent called and said they had a FedEx load that needed covered from a breakdown at ta next exit down and that payed almost as much as the Dallas one did anyways and I got a pretty nice load out of Memphis I did have to cancel the load out of Texas .. I like doing those r and l loads but haven't did one since

 

No it doesn't. Some agents do not even put their loads on the internal board, instead put them on DAT to broker.

 

I am leased onto another company, but can see one major advantage to LS: theyhave their own shipping contracts. We don’t. It’s all spot market. I am struggling with paying an extra 25% of the already brokered down rate to the company. I used the same board with my own numbers without the 25% hit.

 

On a different topic, what are the typical Lease On requirements for companies like Landstar? Driver Age? Years of Experiences? Truck Year? Do you have to be an O/O for a set period of time or can you be a new o/o (ie: Less than 1yr experience)?

 

I try to do landstar loads if at all possible and very few problems with them. . they have a few agents that do work with different companies like Conway ect and those loads have very few problems ... then there's some for like krogers or advance auto parts ... that pay very good and no problems .... then you have some ltl line hauls like for FedEx or r and l that pay good and no problems ..... those group covers about 85% of the loads that I do then there are the brokered loads that come from ch Robinson ect or agents that double Brooker a load off another load board .. and actually have gotten some decent loads from but gotten some bad ones (slow loading or unloading )bad appointment times and bad information and a lot more likely to cancel on you . the agents usually know absolutely nothing about these loads .. so I try to avoid them but in some areas you have to use them to keep going ... some actually pay pretty good I really hate dealing with a holes .. and sometimes you see the same load listed by 8 different agents at 5 different rates .... and usually good rates and always a crap load so I don't even bother with them any more ... there's plenty of ways to operate in there system . I like doing windows and cabinets with multiple stops that have driver assist unloading which pay 50 or 60 per stops and can make a lot of extra money with the truck turned off .... plus I like doing different things all the time so I do local stuff for awhile then go out otr for awhile. .. it's working out really well for me

 

1 year recent otr experience (I think at least 3 states I don't believe they have any age restrictions on the driver or the truck .. truck has to pass a landstar dot inspection .. clean dvr record not perfect but good .. you can go to lease to landstar. com they have it detailed information there ..... it is a pain in the ### dealing with the the people that sign you up and it takes about 3 weeks but once your done with that it gets easy 2 day orientation then you basically do not here from them unless something is wrong
