thanks for this info.
Also I'm still trying to wrap my head around insurance, tags/plates etc. How much of this is covered by Landstar as an advantage of leasing on with a carrier.
Why pay Landstar over 30% of the load when you can have 100% with your own numbers?

Year's ago a company like landstar or mercer required several years of driving experience and a few of truck ownership. Tiday they practically hire right out of school. I think its 1 year driving experience. And can go straight to them the moment you finance a truck.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

After reading all this good stuff about LS I had to go check out their page. Too bad they force HAZMAT on their contractors. Why do they make it an issue if the contractor never plans on hauling anything requiring the endorsement?
-
I'm betting its so they can eliminate any risk of a guy without hazmat taking a hazmat load. Besides, having a hazmat endorsement is a good thing. Same with tanker. It will pay for itself.tommymonza, whoopNride and DSK333 Thank this.

I don't know what the contract says, but I have 0 doubt that loads are booked, and then sold off cheaper.
I've called to book a load, and been into the conversation for a few minutes, and the agent will go "Oh, you're a BCO."
Now I think there are also agents, I've found 2 so far, both direct shippers, that are 100% above board. -
Hazmat is always there. LS is starting to pursue it.
I hall about 50% hazmat. Always pays good, always available.
My two biggest one day earnings were hazmat.
After LS, fuel, one day of overhead $1450 & 1250.
The 1250 net took me less than 8 hours from walking out my front door, to back in it.
