Why pay Landstar over 30% of the load when you can have 100% with your own numbers?

Since it's the same screening for TWIC and Hazmat That should not be a problem for LS drivers.....Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

It is not, but it gave a good army move at top dollar after 50 loads from Wisconsin to South Carolina were given to a broker. When 10 out of the 50 were denied access and number 11 was removed in handcuffs the DOD asked one of our agents to move about 30 loads from Arkansas to South Carolina so there would be no problems.
kbarttt, Dave_in_AZ and spyder7723 Thank this. -
I don't think its for surprises, but more likely to prevent human error. Doesn't look good when you send a truck to the customer and due to a clerical error on the trucking side the driver can't haul it. Every one makes mistakes, so it's a good idea to eliminate as many chances of human error as possible.

Are you noticing a lot more military freight requiring the form and tally chain of custody paperwork this year? That alone eliminates 99% of the carriers out there.
I live those little things like that. Just a few pages of paperwork to fill out to be approved for these kind of loads and yet very few of the competition will bother, or even know where to begin to get access to the freight.
Case in point, a few months back there was several loads for bid coming out of the air force base in Panama city, what is that one called? Tillman? Anyway they went out to white sands. All required twic, boom 50% of the competition can't even bid on it and a few required form and tally. Boom 99% of the small carriers are out. So now I'm just competing with you landstar guys (and the handful of other open deck carriers that got their act together).
The reason i bring that load up specifically is cause while I'm there loading two t-28 engines that weigh so little 2 guys wheeled them on by hand, 2 other small carrier trucks are picking up 40k lb conex boxes and wander over to start talking to me, asking what I'm getting for the run. Me being me i resound with sone generic answer of 'its ok but nothing great'. Billy Bob big rigger puffs his chest up all proud "i got 4500 out of the broker, so your getting what? about 3k after your carrier takes their percentage. you should get your authority cause these big carriers just screw the driver". I just nod and smile and agree while thinking how im getting screwed so hard that i got 2400 more to run 38k lbs lighter to the exact same place. I must be a ##### cause i like that kind of screwing.Last edited: May 5, 2018
Road*Runner, kbarttt, Blu_Ogre and 1 other person Thank this. -
I recently got my Cdl and added my tanker and doubles and triples and hazmat.
Thinking my Twic card should cover me for background check in Michigan was foolish thinking.
Nope. The DMV didn't even know what a Twic card was. Nope have to pay the local cops to fingerprint and check for recent loitering charges -
You get some sort of discount if you time them right.

You're soooooooo going to hell dude.Blu_Ogre Thanks this.

A lot of the line haul we do for FedEx, Central, etc., has a good chance of having hazmat in the mix, and it's never known until the dude hands you the BOLs.
That's a bad time to find out you need the X.
There's lots of distribution freight like that as well.
It's not because everyone is going to fly the skull & crossbones. -
I figure on crossing over and getting bounced right back here.... Cause neither place wants me causing problems.......Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
