Well it would if you don't take in account that there is maintaince on that trailer.
I ran with theirs for a while, I didn't care when it came to the fact that a set of tires costs more than I would have lost sitting on the side of the road. Bad tires, I called and dropped the trailer off and picked up another one. The same goes for one that is coming up for inspection, I would call and get another one from an agent's location and be on my way. I figured it would tie me up for a half a day getting things straighten around if I owned the trailer.
Why pay Landstar over 30% of the load when you can have 100% with your own numbers?

As with all drop and hooks, a good percentage of the time I had to get something done to the trailer at the next opportunity. seems most had a light out or needed tires.
I can also put boxes under my trailer if I choose to do more trade show/blanket wrap freight. Kinda hard to carry 100 pads in the truck.
That extra $300+ in revenue per week (when I was running long miles) basically paid for the trailer in about 6 months.......Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -

Brickwall and Midnightrider909 Thank this. -
I save every rate con. That dispute lasted about 3 minutes since I had the rate con. -

When you see me post I've bought a trailer, the end will be near probably lol. -
Everyone can take Landstar Webinars.
It's basically an on line meeting with Landstar and they show you the actual load board in real time.
They will even do a quick search for you.
See for yourself.DSK333 Thanks this. -
I guess it comes down to how much effort is someone willing to put forth. If someone would rather pay an organization to do their job for them it's their call. Honestly I'm not going to pretend to understand it. I pay a very small percentage to the carrier which basically covers minimal back office stuff and chasing down payment.
Yes I have a lot more responsibility than a Landstar owner operator, as a result, I also keep a lot more of my money each year.
I'm sure actually works really well for some people. And the fact that there are people that are happy goes a long way. Having seen the way they deal with non BCOs, I unfortunately have very little respect left for the organization. I will keep my earnings and reinvest them into more equipment, and not the wallet of Landstar.Last edited: Apr 30, 2018
