If they slip seat you just got to get used to it.
I carried Lysol, window cleaner and paper towels.First thing to do was spray the steering wheel and shifter.
One company i drove for had trucks just for smokers...that was nice. -
I smoke cigars. Needless to say, other drivers did NOT appreciate following me into a truck. It wasn't a problem though, because the companies that I worked for did pretty much keep you to the same truck.
If mine was in the shop or otherwise unavailable, I would be considerate enough of the driver assigned to whatever truck I was in, that I just wouldn't smoke.
It is ALWAYS a gamble when you work for an LTL where the trucks are housed in the yard. If you leave your gear in the truck, you are likely to loose your gear.
We had a guy come to work one morning, to find that his tractor had been shipped out (reassigned,) overnight to another dock. Nobody bothered to unload his stuff, and he never did get it back.
I never had that problem, for one reason and one reason only. When I first started there, I asked to be assigned to the oldest truck in the fleet. Sure, I spent the first couple of weeks in my spare time, cleaning it up and getting it back into shape. But it was worth it. -
Good strategy, Don. I took the oldest one in my fleet (just rebuilt). No one wanted her because it was an 02 approaching 2 mill. Best rig in the fleet. -
if a driver comes into the yard and his truck needs repairs, they just tell him get "such and such" and get going......God only knows how many times i saw this happen. one guys truck had his cb radio in it, not a real good one either, but about 3 months go by, his truck finally came back, with his radio still in it too....!!
LTL companies simply will not let a tractor sit if a driver needs it right now.
so when "old will do", remember, it's still a company truck, subject to going out the gate with another driver.kdryan Thanks this. -
Rerun, you are correct. Hell there aren't ANY guarantees in this business other than the old SNAFU!

I will second what most everyone else here said. Sure it's not that big of a deal to slip seat, but it's a BETTER deal if you dont have to. Just because a truck has the same tag on it dont mean its going to drive like the one you had yesterday or the day before. Basically they will but every truck is different and it's a good thing to "get to know" a truck, intimately. Depending on what kind of local (or any for that matter) job you are doing, you might want to carry alot more items than what you take with you right now. It's a drag getting into a truck when the seat smells like it just came out of the land fill or you know someone that runs with the seat belt under their armpit instead of across their chest just because it's more comfortable for them. Seeds, breadcrumbs, tobacco smell or tobacco spit down the side of the door and on the armrest, chips on the floor or a gallon of ice cream melted under the passenger seat (yea it happened). Hooking up your CB everyday if you run with one. Yea, having your "own" truck is better...............
notarps4me Thanks this. -
1) the are no hook up terminals
2) there is no cigarette lighter or power ports
3) the fuse is blown and you cannot get another one
4) the vise grip cb antenna mount you have will not grip the mirror bracket
5) when hooked up, there is SO MUCH STATIC
6) when hooked up, you hit your brakes and the cb radio goes dead....
OMFG........don't get me started on cb radios in a slip seat situation.....!!
