I'm not disagreeing with you... but they do have a point. If you stuff around 75% of the calories necessary to sustain you down your gullet in one meal, load it down with a ton of saturated fat... it ain't gonna be long before you start outweighing your tractor!

Absolutely right, I don't know how people do it but as drivers we see it all the time. I'm glad I don't eat like that and try to keep things within reason but I guess within reason is different for everybody. I have, however, seen and heard some far out claims from the group in question, so much so that the agenda takes up most of their claims rather than the "science" they say they use. Anytime I see them attached to anything I'm skeptical was all I was getting at. If those numbers in the article are anywhere close to accurate that is just outrageous, I don't really have the words for it.

Denny's recently started offering a lower priced menu of selected items. I've ordered of this menu a few times. Every time, and I mean every time, the servings are so small I end up having to order something else too.

LOL @ all the complainers in here

I'm a big fan on Flying J in general and ate at Denny's often. They seem newer and cleaner than most TA or Petros and they're pretty comparable in my view. Flying J also has pizza and the hot foods case so they have a variety of options.

Then again.. I'm not a 400-pounder who needs to stuff my face at a buffet either. Things are more expensive on the road.. it's just common sense.. they have a captive audience so of course they're gonna charge what they can get away with. Thats business.. just like you O/O want to haul for the highest rate YOU can get away with.

Thats why I ate out of the truck most nights and only had a restaurant meal once a week or so. It's a LUXURY not a necessity.

Im no 400 pounder either. I unload mattresses all day ever day and jog/run and walk a couple of times a week on top of that so i am in decent shape myself and with that said sometimes I want to plop down for a good meal with good service and so far into my 2 trips trying out denny's they have provided average food at best and terrible service on both occasions. The pizza you talk about at flying j is way over priced as is most of the food in the hot box. Plain flat out and simple, Pilot came in and ruined an already ok situation. I used to love having the option of the buffet or salad bar at the flying j and the service was almost always head and shoulders above what Denny's is providing even on bad days. You go ahead and be a Denny's and pilot fanboy. Dont say you are a flying j fan because what you have now isnt flying j. Its pilot with a new sign. With the exception of the coffee I dont have a lot of good to say about what has been done. Trust me when i tell you its not only just the 400 pound face stuffers that think the change and the value and the service stink. And one of the only reasons why they seem newer and cleaner to you is becuase of the remodels and for the time being they are newer and cleaner. Give it time.I'll take TA and Petro anytime i have a choice over Flying Pilot. Im still waiting for them to slowly start phasing out the drivers lounges. It will happen.

They should probably get some kind of tax credit or even a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency for doing that.

It's not just Denny's for me. It's ANY chain truck stop restaurant. (Iron Skillet, Country Pride, etc.) All they serve is fatty, carb loaded fair. I get salads if I eat at one but Partner and I have agreed that he will only make me eat at one once a week. :biggrin_25525:
And don't even get me started on the cheap, fried food out of the freezer stuff they put on the buffets.....Where's my Prime Rib?:biggrin_25510:
And don't think I don't know what I'm talking about. I used to manage a Kettle which is another version of Denny's et al. I've been a short order cook. These restaurants don't cook things they way I like them so I don't eat there.:biggrin_25513:
You just have to be inventive about parking your rig next to a nice restaurant...:biggrin_25525:

You keep eating at Denny's and you'll look like the 400lb buffet king before long! :biggrin_25522:

I'm a 118-pounder who just wants decent food, Veggies would be good. I do NOT go to Flying J, anymore. The menu is GROSS, the food is worse.

I attempted an order of chips and dip, 3 mos ago. I sent it all back. Went hungry and paid my ticket. We will NOT go into Flying J, or Denny's - period.

I will eat Campbell's soup in my truck, instead. Less Sodium, less fat, less calories and lots more yummy!
