Oh I well remember the White Spots. Particularly one down on South Broadway. I can't remember any Holly Inn. Nor McCoy's.

Did you ever get up to "Top of the Rockies" downtown? Or that restaurant that was on the roof of the Holiday Inn out on South Colorado Blvd? The one that did one complete 360 revolution each hour? Back before the smog was so bad, that was one fantastic view!

The Holly Inn East was at Colfax and about Rosemary or so. Holly Inn West, ah, mmm... was out past Wadsworth somewhere I think.

McCoys is a recent entry - they're still a going concern.

Top of the Rockies? Yeah, a couple of times. Of course, the Security Life Building is long gone now...

I enjoy Dennys food, but the service really sucks.

Even if they aren't busy you still end up waiting forever to get your food. Pretty aggravating.

Welcome to Denny's where the only thing worse then our food is our service!

I only eat one thing on their menu and that's the bbq chicken breast plate. it's usually not bad. the other day I sayre OK I ordered it and the chicken breast were literally the size of half dollars. it was half the portion of most Dennys.

as for breakfast the bacon is inedible, the sausage looks like sawdust.

the service os by far the worst part. SLow, incompetant and rude is the norm although i'm in phoenix right now and just had a very nice waitress. but that is the exception. It baffles me that they are constantly packed. although it's never drivers. it's parents and 1000 kids.

And I bet those parents / kids are real big tippers.

:biggrin_25513:I simply will not eat in a "DENNY'S" again. :biggrin_25513:
Their style of food / service / ambiance does not appeal to me.

I don't do Denny's for a completely different reason that most discussed here. They used to be called "Little Black Sambo's", related to the children's story books in the 50s and 60s.. then changed to Sambo's, then Denny's.

My black friends and family members are rightfully offended by the indication and profit from a little (N-word) boy...I respect their feelings, and dine elsewhere.

    OK....Now the truth!

There used to be a chain of coffee shops called Sambos I remember going to them when I was a kid. They were a direct competitor of Dennys and since they and Dennys existed at the same time as Sambos the evolution of Sambos to Dennys could not have happened as you believe.
When the Sambos chain went away Dennys bought some of their old locations and turned the stores into Dennys locations and the rumor started somtime after that, That Sambos "evolved" into Dennys, It is however not true.

But some people are always searching for reason to be offended by something even if they have to fabricate it.

Here's a little history for you....
"Denny's was founded under the name Danny's Donuts in 1953 by Richard Jezak and Harold Butler in Lakewood, California. They expanded to 20 restaurants by 1959, when the chain was renamed Denny's to avoid confusion with another chain, "Doughnut Dan's". The business continued to grow and by 1981, there were over 1,000 restaurants in all 50 U.S. states. In 1977, Denny's introduced the still-popular Grand Slam breakfast."
Thanks for the history lesson. Those were different times. Time to move forward. There are idiots out there who want to edit Mark Twain as well.
