Even if Brokers were completely cut out of the equation it still doesn't mean the more money the carrier makes the more money will get passed to the driver. Even though I deal with Brokers and shippers for a living I do understand where you are coming from. Brokers wishing to keep the lions share of the money for moving a load is just as responsible for causing cheap freight as the carriers who use student drivers.

This post is exactly why wages will stay so low in the truckload segment.

I'm paid hub miles and it really amazes me how many people on here talk about driving over 10,000 miles a month and they are not paid hub miles and a lot of the time it can be over a 1,000 miles a month you get ripped off on. That's a huge scam and one of the reasons why I will never go back to OTR driving.

    I chose to do both.

I prefer long haul LTL and like the challenge that it presents each week..

We are paid on the hub (not shorted with air miles) have anywhere from 8, 10, 12, or more drops (usually more) on a outbound wagon..The extra drop pay is nice and adds up fast..

Nobody holds our hand or watches our every move (unlike mega fleets)....The boss man buys big shiney fast left lane trucks, no restrictor plates, home weekly, and he lets us run..

For me its about as good as its gonna get out here unless I go back to bull hauling...

    hey where is 'olhand ??

He could shed some light on this whole LTL thing..

What does one particular person's preference in what type of work he is willing to do have to do with the wage scales in the truckload segment?

Its the idea that he will undercut my price so deep that i cant compete on a level im willing to accept. Ergo he is a cheaper freight hauler. So much for say no to cheap freight. ....

You're assumption is wrong. LTL and most other very well compensated jobs in trucking are that way because of the union shops. They pay at or just under union scale wages and sometimes give even better benefits such as insurance and paid time off to keep their drivers from unionizing and also to attract and retain the best of the best. That is a simple fact of the trucking industry. Folks like the megas don't even compare to jobs in this catagory.

No sir don't worry my $500 a week job is not in the trucking industry. Your rates are safe. You really think I'd drive a big rig for that kind of money? No way!

Idk why everybody keeps talking about P&D, this was about linehaul.
Not the city garbage and 15 drops a day.

I'm talking about running from terminal to terminal, dropping a trailer.. pick up another and head back.
    There's a big difference.
