Or that info will be found on the provision sheet, that thing which the permit will say has to be attached or with the permit in order for the permit to be valid.

Be sure to read the provisions, because the pilot car thats running you across their home state, and bragged to you about how long they been at it and the biggest load they've escorted (read my post about people who volunteer their employment history), will probably have never even read their home state's osow provisions.
After all, its not their tickets.

To the OP...I didn't mean to sound harsh in my previous post. I've worked with some pilot car drivers who were really good and understood the concept that their main job was to make my job easier.
I don't know how other companies work...I imagine they're a lot the same...but we sometimes don't get a lot of notice on our moves. Something breaks down in the woods or on a road job somewhere and we have to jump and run. If we can't do the job there are a lot of competitors who can and will.
Having dependable pilot car drivers, drivers who don't have to be told every little thing and who know the country we're moving in, is one of the keys to doing a good job.

Reading this made me glad I never needed an escort for the heavy haul work I did.

Wow. Is it really that big of a problem to find people who are actually able to do their job? Showing up on time and properly prepared to go seems like basic elementary school #### to me TBH.

This an everyday problem in nearly all aspects of life. Too many people want a paycheck but are not willing to do even the minimum amount of work necessary to earn it.I am glad that I don't have a job that requires skilled help to get around. I truly feel for those in the oversize area of trucking.

I would literally turn down my radio because too many wouldn't listen to what I wanted to know and not every single car coming and what model and color they were.

    Oxbow and truckdad Thank this.

Because of requirements. I can run down the road in Alberta with a 10 axle at 113 feet long with no pilot car and up to 12'6 wide. But BC requires one for length and width at 91 feet and 11'6. Do I really need that pilot car in bc when I can drive around just fine everyday without one in Alberta? No, but because they say I need one I get one. But my radio is turned off or down if the pilot car won't listen to what I want from them. Which is usually nothing when I'm driving down the highway.

I like when you show up to interject when you have no idea what's going on.
