Worse one was Alabama. They used to require a car for any piece of machinery that had a blade that stuck over the side. You could be 9 ft wide with a dozer and need a car.

You think that's bad, at least that's over the side. I've had to get pilots for loads of power poles 65 feet long. AZ made me get pilot cars front and rear for a single 65 foot power pole once I got off the big highways and onto some smaller ones. Middle of nowhere, virtually no traffic, no tight turns, and I had two pilot cars...

Could it be they don't listen because you have a midland 29 channel cb with a cheap antenna that talks five feet and a microphone that sounds like it's hung out the window??? Or is that just the escorts that run with mobile home movers?

I'm so glad my group of drivers and pilots almost all run vhf radios. Leaps and bounds better then a cb even with a bad set up 2 mile range is easily attainable. I was talking 10 miles the other day with on of our drivers on a 60 watt vhf.

I stuck primarily to 5 or 6 axle loads and that was plenty. A 330 CAT excavator or a Terex TA40 is more than capable of incessantly reminding you of it's presence.

You guys can have all this "escort" drama.

Nah, no drama. Not any more.
As a matter of fact a complete and total lack of drama is my main goal...hence the in-house pilot car drivers.
