Ok I've been reading everything I can on this forum for I guess the past 3 months. I went ahead and got my CDL last week and still wonder, after anyone reads all the negative post about all the companies out there why would anyone want to subject themselves to this industry?
I can't help but wonder how many people that post their negative thoughts are more like a bunch of children that don't get their way so they need to crap on someone. I plan on driving for someone in the future but after reading all I have on here, there are no good companies to work for.
It seems that all the experianced drivers hate who they work for but they still do it.
I will still read all the post cause I guess it's kind of like a train wreck, you want to look away but can't and it's kind of funny to see some of your stories.

I'm like you. I've pretty much decided it isn't for me right now. But then you have to realize no matter what industry you are researching you will find many that just love the job and just as many that just hate it. I guess that's life.

Every time I get out on the road in traffic and get around the big rigs I really want to drive one. My biggest problem is if I can get a job that pays decent and can sleep in my own bed at night then why not? I'm not a home body.....I just hate the thought of giving that many hours to my job. I know you get 10 hours off every day but you can't run home either.

Well, a couple of things you have to keep in mind....
    1. Generally all that you're gonna hear about any job is the negative. Would it be more interesting to set down over a beer and tell your buddies about the crappy day that you had because your boss is an idiot, etc....or tell them about the uneventful day that went smooth as glass?
    2. People in general just aren't happy unless they're complaining about something. Ever hear the expression "He'd complain if someone hung him with a new rope"?
    3. A very large part of the complaints that you'll read about and hear about regarding bad companies, upon further investigation, is the fault of the driver who's doing the complaining. My company canned me because I had 3 accidents last year.....I got a speeding ticket in California for 67 in a 55 zone....I got shut down for being 2000# over on my drives, and had 2 bald tires and a headlight out.

What it boils down to is simple....you're as happy as you want to be at any given company. It's up to you to do the homework and check the company out before you ever go to work for them. Having done so, you theoretically would have nothing to cry about. Sure there are exceptions to the rule, but you should walk into any company with your eyes wide open.

To answer your question of why....I was bouncing down the road in a truck with my Dad for as long as I can remember, and I love it out here. Wish he was still here so I could return the "ride" for him......
Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it....:yes2557:

I understand all that but how and why do some of these people get out of bed in the morning if it's all that bad?? Heck to someone new to the forum you have to wonder why truckers nation wide aren't taking their own lives every day.
Do they ever get tired of wollowing in their own pitty?:biggrin_25513:

Like I said...most people ain't happy unless they're bi***ing about something. This job definitely does suck at times, really bad at other times. But do you think that all these trucks would still be out here if it was as bad as most say it is?

I've worked in manufacturing the last 30 years and many of the people there are constantly complaining about management, coworkers, pay...etc...etc.

If they are happy with their job you don't hear about it. Same goes on here. The drivers that are content for the most part don't post much or maybe even don't even monitor the message boards.

    Just my 2cents for what it's worth.:biggrin_2554:

Complaining is just so much more fun. Very, very few people want to post about what great co-workers they got or what a great boss they have. And if they do it's kept to a minimum: otherwise it leaves ya open. :biggrin_25523:Besides when someone really bugs you, you really can't help but start raggin' on them whether it's in your car mumbling to yourself on your way home (not healthy:biggrin_25513:), or to the one or two people (who'll listen) unfortunate enough to get stuck with you when your in a bad mood (also not healthy:biggrin_25513:). So just look at it as self-therapy. Besides, think of all the barbs and venom you can come up with when you've had time to think about a particular situation. The new thinking is: "Don't waste that energy & anger. Post it on a forum for all to see! SOMEONE WILL READ IT!!".:biggrin_25523: Well...that's how I figure it anyway. Not that I do that sort of thing. I don't. Really!:biggrin_25521:

When people ask what I do for a living I tell'em I sit on my a_s look out the window and listen to the stereo. One other thing. When you are stuck in traffic some morning just remember one thing these people are trying to get to work, you're already working:)

Well, here's some food for thought for those who like to "b***h" about their job driving a truck. Would you rather be in the freezing cold and/or blazing heat on your feet for 8+ hour's a day making next to nothing breaking you back coming home sore everyday or spend that time making much better money sitting on your ##* keeping that big truck in the line's, not running over people and getting a load there on time while getting to see some cool thing's when time allows. To me I'd rather be driving. Not so much as driving for the money I care about although I could use it but that "American childhood dream" of being in the hot seat of one of these bad boy's truckin' on down the road for the love of it. You picked the career so either like it and deal with any con's or find another career and stop your b***hing. I've lived in a truck for 7 year's and it never get's old to me and I love every aspect of it.
