Do you drive a truck? The ####ers are being serviced, maintained and looked at all the time because of the amount of computers and wiring, the trucks I drove had. Im not sure if Im smarter than a computer, but I slow down without brakes and idle up to traffic lights going through a few gears instead of being in drive and riding the brake. Instead of the auto's 6 or 8 gears, Id rather have the 12 and use my gears to slow me down, not my brakes.
I can ease up a hill in one gear instead of an auto skipping between the two.
What do you mean companies are being forced to have fleet averages for fuel?
why you do not want a automatic.

Just googled the fleet average bit. Hasnt become a big thing down here yet. Most trucks are European and a lot run on bio-diesel and other sustainable fuels.

Have more than 1.5 million miles exp. driving those piece of crap Eatons, once you learn to talk nicely to them, they work just fine. I preferred to think of driving them to making love to the most beautiful woman in the world, slow and gentle, until she asks for it to be down and dirty.scottied67 Thanks this.

Auto transmissions don't (can't) take into account traffic flow, pending traffic flow, upcoming power needs, how much further to the top of the hill, etc. A smart driver with a manual can outperform an auto driven by a typical driver who don't give a crap. But if we're just talking about nimrods fresh out of school, maybe an auto is the best thing for them as far as going forward goes. Going backward, all bets are off, regardless of transmission type.

Nice to have some support from a logical driver.
Auto is fine for a rigid vehicle driving around the city, but long haul and country driving, nothing is better than stick. -
