That's also stating that you as a owner op could make that much money. Some people that are owner ops do not have the drive or ability to get good paying freight day in and out. So that is why they lease on to a company that can get the freight or have contract freight.

I'd say that's good money!!! At the end of the day, long as you're making a living nothing else matters

Who says leasing onto a company and trusting them for good loads is any better?

Are they gonna be honest and give you those super high $$$ loads?

Missed the point or maybe I didn’t lay it out correctly
90% of $2 is much worse than 75% of $4-5

    Just random math
So. Say 100,000 miles at $2 is $200,000 at 80% is $180,000 plus having to pay insurance
The 90% company isn’t including that

100,000 miles at $4 is $400,000 at 75% is $300,000 and no insurance
Or at least that how I look at the math

And leasing on with any company will cost you something but what you need to figure is what you as the truck owner make
My average per mile rate after that 25% is much higher than a lot of guys rates before deductions and I figure every single mile I put on the odometer not just loaded miles

I ran my own authority for several years and I’m not sure it was much different
If I chase a small customer in a small area maybe some would work but I’m one guy and can’t be everywhere a customer might need me but the company I’m leased to can and therefore I can still sorta service a customer without having to turn a load across the country down and when I go home it’s usually 3-4 weeks. A direct customer isn’t going to wait on that

And to your point about a company hiding or keeping the good paying freight is sorta unimportant
They could have all owner ops and still not give some pain in the az driver the good loads
They can’t take all the good loads and if they did they’d be losing guys Dailey
I do my job and arrive early not days late
I have nice gear and maintain it
I shower and treat even lower paying customers as if their load was the best I’ve ever had
That alone will keep you on good freight with any company

Maybe I’m weird but I really could care less what the company trucks and other owner operators here are making. I worry about one truck. And as long as I’m happy with that at the end of the day then there’s not much more I can ask. For the record, I’ve never once called and complained about what I was running for per mile.

The high paying loads here that I should be complaining about not getting are all things I’m really not interested in. I don’t want to pull a conestoga or ramp trailer because you don’t have as much say in where you go. If you’re doing pad wrap stuff then you’re gonna go where the pad wrap load is going. I like having a few choices on my outbound loads. So that’s me leaving money on the table by choosing to not do something I’m not interested in.

When you’re leased on and hauling the same loads a lot you know what it’s going to pay other than the fuel surcharge. Once you figure stuff out it’s also easy to have a general idea what you’ll be doing in any given area. To me, it’s nice being able to somewhat “plan” a few days out just depending on where you’re going. I loaded Friday out of our warehouse going to Maryland. I load my load back on Tuesday. Wednesday afternoon when I’m empty I’ll be right in the middle of 3 customers in about a 60 mile radius to load a short one back to MN. So that means I’ll be dropping that on Thursday and I’ll be right in the middle of all our freight to load out and run over the weekend again. I’m not exactly sure where I’ll be going, but I have a general idea in my head, and I know I’ll be moving all week and not worrying about loads.

If you're buying Flying J pizza then you have bigger issues than $2/mile freight.
