Just looking for some honest feed back. Why do most drivers think that the broker does no work and makes all the money. If some of the drivers had any idea how hard you have to work for the money you make sometimes they would not be so quick to have so may bad things to say. So please can you tell me why you have that opinion. Not looking to start a argument just feed back.

Don't know about the income or how hard you may or may not work for it but I know the constant dishonesty that seems to come from freight brokers tends to get you on edge rather quickly, the other common problem is if you agree to pay the truck in 30 days than do it, not strech it out to 45-60 and have some off the wall excuse as to why.

You must be a broker since you know how hard they work.

Thy are all valid points. Some brokers are good and a few are bad. Thats why i always tell drivers find a broker that fits what they need to do and stick with them if you can. As for the pay they should pay when they say. Sometimes it is best to take a few dollars less on the load and have your money fast rather than wait 40- 50 days. It is all about cash flow.

Yes i am a broker now and i do work hard to make the money i do. I have owned trucks employed drivers done most things. I can tell you brokering is not a easy job at all. You spend hours and hours talking to shippers to get a load from them to show that you can give good service. Then along comes a driver and shows up late no check call will not pick up phone and you just lost your account. The time effort and money you just invested is gone .

While you may have spent a good bit of time and effort to land a customer your daily operating costs are far less than that of a trucking company with actual trucks to pay for. It didn't really cost you all that money then, correct? Perhaps you spent a good bit of time convincing your potential shipper that you could do it cheaper than the current broker. Which then causes you to offer a lane for even less than it was previously paying, meaning you spent a good bit of time convincing some guy that needed to get home to take a less than reasonable rate.

As you stated you have owned trucks so surely you know the operating costs involved. Does the current rates you offer, cover the operating costs and allow a company a decent margin of profit given the industry standards? I once got irritated as I would occasionally refer out loads to brokers that I worked with for direct customers that had more than I could handle. Once a broker made a client of mine pay by wire transfer the money before a truck showed up, another the customer was to pay upon delivery. However the broker didnt pay the trucks for 30-45 days. Why ask for immediate payment without a discount when you aren't willing to give one yourself to the trucking company that just spent $450 in fuel and $400 in driver pay.

With the tools out there, select better carriers, pay better rates, and more than likely you will get better service like check calls and the like....or if the freight pays well enough clearly you could go back to owning trucks, employing drivers, and waiting 30-45 days to get paid on your backhauls w/o giving up a percentage. Why do brokers act like giving up 3-5% to get paid quicker is a great thing. If the profit margins in trucking were 75% then I would get it, however they are far lower as you well know. I, too have also brokered out loads before - they were decent paying and it wasnt that much work. The total profit too the broker was $150 of which I got $90 for probably an 1.5 hours of work. Granted I already had the customers because I owned trucks as well. Essentially to broker out a load I got $90 because I had a laptop and a phone and no overhead cost.

to sum it up. brokers lie, trucking companies lie, shippers lie, recievers lie, truckstops lie, mechanics lie, d.o.t lie, cops lie. all in the sake of getting the money or time truck drivers don't have. a good 85 to 90% of drivers don't lie. and yet they get called liars by the liars. all in the sake of taking the driver for every penny they can get. and when bad things happen. the driver always gets blamed and hung out to dry of someone elses lies and mistakes. and when the bad things happen. drivers are left on there own with no help what so ever from the people they helped.

To sum it up even better, its the fools taking the loads who allow themselves to be lied to without going on facts, or doing their due dilligence to ensure of a smooth transaction for what they view as a good income. Its alot easier to just cry and blame the broker then it is the accept responsibility for yourselves. Man up and do your job, which if you are an independant O/O, is NOT just driving the truck...and QUIT WHINING!!

For the truck drivers, it seems like a "darned if you do and darned if you don't" situation. This is both sad and unfortunate.

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
