    probably depends on the equipment. none of my computers are wired in. i can even log in using my cell phone.

    i have the dsl modem router combo unit provided by the dsl provider. centurylink. i haven't had an actual router for years now.

    you do have to be careful on the encryption setting though. (WPA, WPA2, etc) sometimes, THAT has to be changed. so that everything being used, can log in to the wifi connection.
