Yes..definately the www.indianacareerconnect.com website we must register for unemployment with has more trucking jobs listed on it compared to any other job. I plan on bringing a copy of the governor's top 50 hottest jobs in Indiana with me as trucking is listed #19 on that list...It's on the unemployment website...they got some splainin' to do if they say it is not an important career here in Indiana. I did research and have found 5 WIA approved truck driving schools here in this state alone. I think a big part of success is being well prepared. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Yup!!![]()

"""Employment in transportation and material moving occupations is projected to grow by 1.1 million between 2004 and 2014. Two-fifths of new jobs should be for truck drivers and driver/sales workers. (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2006-07 Career Guide to Industries)"""john10204 Thanks this. -

Perfect.. Already had a class A but needed school to land an OTR job so I did it by saving money and writing a check when I was 21.. Even at 21 I had enough pride that I was gonna do it myself..
Now I get to watch my tax dollars go to what I paid for myself so you can come in and undercut my companies wages..
I have a great idea.. Get off your lazy ##### and save your own money to get the schooling you need to drive.. It can be done...
What a bunch of leeches.... -
The posts I've been reading here are enough to make me throw up..
And I don't really care to hear any sob story about why you can't afford it on your own minus an illness in the family which might be 1 in 100.. 95% of the rest are nothing but a bunch of "whoa is me" free-loaders that will get on the next government ride once they give up trucking..
What sucks is that I have to open my wallet and share the road with you till you hit up the next program.. -
I have never had assistance from family..did it all myself. I bought my first home by working fulltime and taking an ad in the paper for landscaping to save up the money. Same thing with all of my vehicles. I don't have credit, aside from my car which is soon to be paid off. If anything, since coming to the U.S, I have contributed to society here.
Now I am 47, my company just closed its doors a few weeks ago giving me 6 hours notice and shafted me and my family out of 3 grand...but I am not complaining...so I have been without a paycheck for the past month...If the government has assistance to get me into another career, I can tell you that it will cost taxpayers a hell of a lot less. I will be trained and on the road paying taxes again in short order as opposed to drawing unemployment for God knows how long.
I have never taken a handout in my life but I will certainly take this hand up if it's offered to me. Go talk to your politicians and congressman, they are the ones taking the real money out of your pockets.
GET OVER YOURSELF!! -
I understand you're new to trucking but it's pretty much a race to the bottom now.. New drivers at training companies are running for slave wages while my .555 per mile run gets cut from 15 drivers to 14 to 13 and so on.. O/O's run for less and less and less because new naive drivers are entering the industry willing to work for what amounts to nothing - and I'm paying for it in tax dollars and wages..
Before you tell me to get over myself......... educate yourself about the industry please.... Thnx..... -
1) WIA is paid for by Federal unemployment money. Money paid by the company you work for whether people use the WIA money or not. Not by YOU.
2) People using the WIA money are not on Welfare. They are people who for one reason or another were laid-off from their jobs. Laid-off, not fired or having quit.
3) These are people who are trying to get back into the workforce and not live off of your tax dollars.
People that have the work ethic to get back into paying taxes. Sorry if you can't see the good in this; however, I would bet your attitude might have something to do with your wages being driven down. If you are like this here I have to wonder how you come across to your dispatchers. Feel free to flame me back.. I'll just consider the source.john10204 Thanks this.
