If you have a dc/ac plug in the truck this is a good unit that won't break the bank. $50. Its by one of the most reputable companies and will give you a big bang for your bucks.

There are countless towns around the USA with Colleges that teach IT, among other things WiFi and IT security which happens to include what we call wardriving, the art of accessing people's unsecured wifi.

In my town with such a college there is about 94 towers. At last scan there is approximately 24 of them unsecured within 5 miles. Since all connections are logged, once the people on those connections detect an outsider piggy backing on they will secure it.

12 years ago when I went to IT, there was only 76 towers and 54 of them were unsecured. You can see the trend in securing their own connections for obvious reasons.

    With that said...

If I wanted to use wireless internet, I will and am doing it with a smart phone on a prepaid over 4G... when 5G gets approved and rolled out... the wired internet as we know it probably will cease to matter when hundreds of millions of people stream it in real time to each other.

But until 5G, the best way to do it is with your own Cell Phone that is smart enough to carry the internet and stream movies over a adequately fast connection.

If you need better cell coverage in your truck, Fusiontogo at signalbooster.com works good for me. Otherwise, they also have a heavy duty wi-fi booster that catches free wi-fi from a whopping 7 miles away.

    PE_T Thanks this.

I used a netgear wifi range extender with my mobile hotspot. It didn't reach as far as it said should but 1800 feet was good enough.
