I stumbled onto Wikimapia the other day. www.wikimapia.org

I may not have enough whiskers to post the link, but everyone should be able to figure out how to get to the site.

I like to use google maps with the street view to preview stops, low bridges, landmarks, etc, but I see a lot of potential for wikimapia. Users can label shippers and receivers and put a note in on each one (like street back, blind back, phone number, etc- subject to approval by the other users- so no crude or personal remarks). Users can also label intersections, streets (truck routes) and (low!!) bridges.

If you go on the site, just click on 'view' in the top left corner and use the 'hybrid' view to get streets and satellite view (just like google or yahoo maps). They definitely have some kinks to work out (there is a beta version already), but with a good filtering system it could have potential to save drivers a lot of headaches. Obviously, you still have to use common sense as you are trusting others.
