Of course, it’s just an observation that I’ve noticed over and over again that’s all.

Yeah man. I've come to realize that trucking isn't going to necessarily cater to my needs and desires on a high level. The driver really has to fit the needs of the industry, and they're far greater than the those of the driver. A company may advertise flexible hometime for instance, but that may come at the cost of your paycheck. Also, flexible hometime will come if they're fully staffed, and a trucking company is never fully staffed.

What is the deal about taking money from drivers checks for violations? Like being overweight at scales or late to a drop?
I’m. Not training but I’m supposed to start there next week..

What are they taking money out for? I’m not training but I’m supposed to start next week as a company driver.

You could be the most trouble free driver in the fleet and they will pull money from your check without warning for things ranging from going even slightly out of route (which their routes are absolutely atrocious they will route you through the middle of LA but want their crap delivered on time and calculate the trip at 70 MPH AVG speed when Cali is 55) to things like not scanning in your TripPaks properly or on time. There’s an entire page they give you when onboarding that breaks down what they can pull from your checks and for what violations and the onboarding personnel will make you sign it as well.

Also it’s 3 days of onboarding (24 hours total 8 hours a day) and you will only be compensated $100 for those 3 days on your following paycheck. As soon as you finish orientation and pass the driving exam they will immediately throw you in a truck. They did not allow us to take a 34 HR reset to pack things or to say goodbye to family so be ready for that. Don’t be suprised if they start sending you straight to LA since you are fresh meat and everyone turns down LA loads.

    Lonesome Thanks this.

Just so you know this whole paragraph is pretty much what every company does. Most will give you more than a 100 bucks for orientation but you usually get dispatched right away without a 34 and some may route you home your first load but most don't. Nature of the business. Rest of the stuff in this thread is total bottom feeder crap i wouldn't wish on anyone.

Ok I believe you but so you’re telling me that even Swift Pays more for orientation than most companies? I remember swift paying me 500 for 3 days!
