will anyone employ me,

i have held a us license for 4 months now and held a uk license for 10 years with a clean record, i cannot find any company that will hire me due to not having held a us license for 2 years some 3 years. by the way im looking for a company that trains students.
has anyone been in my situation?
if i get my own cdl would i stand a better chance in getting employed?
