Most states are allowing you to renew plates by mail, or online and the mail the tabs, the problem is the states with emissions testing, they are giving out 60 day extensions. My wife's car is due in May and due for the first time for emissions, they are supposed to reopen in a week so we'll see. New vehicles, are every state is different on how they are doing it.

Okay, then I guess I'm asking as it pertains to potential new CDL drivers getting their license.

In the collapse of '08 a lot of people got into trucking to escape the economic fallout. I've heard a couple of pundits and reporters mention how trucking will be needed ergo "still work in trucking!"

Except with CDL schools & local DMV's closed I don't know how someone would be able to rush into trucking in a relatively short period this time.

You'd be better off working for Amazon or Papa John's. No CDL required.

Are the CDL renewals online now? Endorsement tests waived?

Most states are giving at least a 60 day extension, and after that you'll still need to go in to the DMV. Here in California we need to take the eye test and hazmat test if you have that endorsement.

How can you say that someone who is already a walking bag of death, thanks to their lifestyle choices (obesity, hypertension, most people with diabetes, etc) and continues to work is more of a 'hero' than the healthy person who risks their well being to perform a service? That's like saying, "John was on his last legs with cancer, but he jumped in front of that bullet. What a hero!" The one who has more at risk is the greater 'hero', not the bag of excrement who needs a break before going up the 2nd flight of stairs.

    Oh spare me.

How many "lifestyle choices" are CAUSED by the job?

    Obesity:
Yup, cruise control is set, all I have to do is hold the steering wheel for the next 4 hours and average 65 mph to make the appointment times set by people at a desk somewhere. Now, let's go in the bunk and do some sit ups!

    Hypertension:
I'm sure this car is going to use their mirrors and either accelerate off or slow down and come in behind me. Surely they're not going to come within 3' of my bumper, brake check me, flip me off then call my safety department, resulting in my phone suddenly ringing during a road rage incident? Like that didn't just happen today.

("And they say they can see you on the phone,,," "Jack you just called ME!")

    Diabetes:
Because the loaders screwed up I have 6 hours to get this load to Cincinnati by dawn. Hey, where's the all night Panera Bread? I want a salad at 3am.
(can we even talk about the logistics of eating a salad with one hand while driving?)

Right now as every fast food place has started to run out of meat, and all the restaurants run bankers hours, if that. The ONLY thing to eat right now is processed crap.

I'm gonna throw your logic back in your face:

How much of a sacrifice is it to be a doctor or a nurse right now when every town in America is throwing a parade every other day? How many of them are asked to go for 48 hours without restroom facilities? How many of the many are getting fatalities deducted from their pay? ("Doc you saw 8 patients today but only 5 of them lived so we're only paying you 67.5% of your salary this week.")

They are GIVING condos to traveling doctors and nurses! FREE!

We can't even use the federally funded highway rest stops that were made for us that we can only use half of anyway and we're based on 70's era traffic!!!

(I never wanted to compare truckers to medical staff but this has been itching the back of my mind fof a week, especially since we got lumped in with "delivery drivers" if we're mentioned at all. Honeybadger just struck a nerve.)
