I will be 20 next month and am looking to start with a trucking company next year. But thanks to recent events, I am afraid that companies will not hire me or offer driving school.
I had court today. For negligent driving. Specifically, "spinning my tires". I was found guilty. Paid the fines. I will find out tomorrow whether or not I still have a license, seeing as how I have three (count 'em, 3) speeding tickets from the previous year.
Now, I - personally - don't consider myself a dangerous driver. Since my three speeding infractions, I have decided that doing a few MPH over the speed limit is still illegal and just not worth it. The "spinning the tires" was due to new tires on my vehicle and they were being broken in (decreased traction on new tires within the first 500 or so miles), and my car was newer and different to me. Anyways, enough excuses...
I have three moving violations and one misdemeanor. If I keep clean for a year, how do you think driving companies will look at me?
Will I be able to get a job in trucking?

Well you have a few problems. First you are not old enough. Most companies will not hire you until you are 23. Second you have about 3 speeding tickets to many. You have a few years to get yourself together. Try to drive the speed limit for the next few years. And stay out of trouble. Then when you are 23 go get your CDL. Good luck to you.

You need to get a good lawyer and bundle those tickets together.. You need to take them to court (with a GREAT lawyer) and get the tickets set for a deferral or possible "expunged".. You need to try your best and clean up that record.. I know exactly where you are becuase I as well did the same things back when I was your age.. I had a 4 page DMV report
(later grew to 5) Well, joining the Army helped me far as my driving record goes becuase I always had a M16 in my hands and not a steering wheel...:smt070
It is not impossible but you will be fighting a uphill battle.. You can find a few companies that will hire you at the age of 21 so I would not that discourage you but you must find a way to clean that record up a little.. AND don't get anymore tickets.... -
Well there's a class you can take in this state that gives back 3 or 4 points on your record... But as far as erasing my previous tickets... I've never heard of such a thing... I guess I will have to look into that. But I'm in no position (financially) to do such right now...

Yup you can get them off your record.. Several things come into play..
1. Money
2. Corruption always helps (lol we all know that never happens in our legal system)
3. local laws (some counties are just ridiculous when it comes to things like this)
4. A good lawyer..
(remember these words, Deferral and expunged)
Look, this is how it goes...
most companies say 3 tickets in the past 3 years is the max.. Now you have "4" tickets in the past 2 years.. Not to mention 3 of them came in a one year period and you can bet that will factor in to you not getting a job..
Once the tickets start to fall off (they drop of after 3 years but does not leave your record) most companies will only take into consideration the past 3 years.. But you can bet they will run a 5 year report and they will ask you about them...
Points? driving class? will do absolutely nothing for you at this point far as getting a job.. The tickets are there and it does not matter if you get points removed or not.. (although you should still attend the class and have the points removes, but will not help you far as trucking job goes)
2 options
1. Have the tickets removed from your recorded (sometimes you can and sometimes you can't)
2. wait till they fall off after 3 years..
By the way the tickets actually stay for 10 years on your recorded then they are supposed to be permanently removed... this always does not happen.. I still have tickets showing up from 91 when my 10 year is ran...
(kind of like your credit report but that is a totally different story)
So, if you want to drive a truck your best bet is to SAVE MONEY and get a good lawyer... -
Wow. That cop really screwed me over for the next few years... Sigh.
Thanks for the info. Guess I won't be seeing ya'll out there... -
I personally understand thought.. I am not encouraging you in anyway that what you done is the right thing at all..
Most cops are well putting it lightly "jerks" nowadays.. People who was picked on in high school or had a social disorder given power with the badge.. Letting the entire cop thing go completely to their head.. Not to mention some school bullies also end up as cops..
Now I am not saying there are not any good cops just saying there are very few.. (guess that would depend on ones view of "good")
I happen to know a little about this cause well half my family are cops and the other half works for ATT.. The best man I ever know was a cop and had been one over 30+ years.. unfortunately he was shot and killed on the side of the highway back in 89 or 90 by a guy who had a simple warrant..
Something strange about this is about a week prior he told his wife when he dies that he DID NOT want to be berried in his cop uniform.. He was disgusted with the way the law was going.. Had nothing to do with helping people anymore but simply starting to become a revenue thing.. His exact words.. (not to mention corruption in the force)
Another Cop (not a family member but just a nice guy) the guys name was Hamilton...
he was a cop when I was your age.. This is when I was going threw my extreme lead foot stage as you are.. I passed this guy doing no less then 140 Mph in my car.. yes said over 140Mph... no ticket no slamming me on the ground nothing like that.. He simply waited till he seen me the next time (lol i don't think he could of caught up to me at that time) We sat down at McDonald's lol and we had a long talk.. told me that he knows that he could not stop me from doing such stupid things but If I was going to do it just do it in places I would not kill somebody other then ME.. Well he added a few other things...
He ended up quiting the sheriff's department becuase they kept harassing him for not righting tickets and arresting people.. (he wasn't hitting the numbers they set)
A true servant to the community, this man was out to help people not arrest them if not needed....
Anyways that was a little off subject..
I am going to tell you the same thing.. If your going to do such stupid things just make sure you do it where you will not hurt other people.. -
1) Tires have little traction w/in the first 500 miles of use.
2) I was on an incline, let in the clutch and shifted into first in order to go, as the light had just turned green. The car behind me (cop) was so close to my arse that I could not see his lights, thus once my car began rolling backwards, I was afraid of rolling into him. And since the car was new to me and had a slightly different cluth than I am used to, I gave too much gas and let out the clutch way too soon. It was an honest and innocent mistake that people make when they are first getting used to their new vehicle. edit: Also, the officer lied and said I had done it twice previous to the write-up and that I had not used my signals four times. The public attorney said, "In recent evidence brought forth by the officer, I will give you two choices: admit guilt to negligent driving, or plea not guilty and I will motion for reckless driving. That officer had amazing memory and is, as far as I'm concerned, one of the best officers on the force." Now how do I compete with that? You can't. Not a 19 year old "punk kid" can compete with "one of the best officers on the force". Not w/o an attorney.
Please do not assume. -

I wasn't assuming and actually I wasn't even referring to you doing a burn out.. It was the speeding I was referring to and again I wasn't assuming you was doing 140+ like I was.. simply saying if you do then do it where you will not hurt others...
And again I totally agree with you on cops making crap up in court to get their case threw.. They do it every day all threw out America, disgusting people we pay to protect us do such things.. Shows how much respect they have for the oath they must take.. You can be assured that the same disrespect carries over to their daily activities as a police officer..
exactly what I was saying in the above post.. prosecutors know they lie.. judges know they lie.. they all know they lie just to push the cases threw and make money... the key words MAKE MONEY its a profit game to them.. The problem is cops carry that over into thier duties as an officer (other then court)
