Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think Roehl has a terminal anywhere near Los Angeles. He would never get home.

Wow that's a creepy story there Victor.

Yeah you're probably right. I'm posting from my iPhone and didn't see that LA was his home. Thought maybe it was just the training terminal.

All right, I hate to say it, but try Gordon (Rancho Cucamonga). Or do some local work. You've got your CDL and more experience than you realize. Grapevine. Siskiyou. You've got options and experience you can build on.

    It'll get better.

/I asked tow614 to come over here. I've been critical of Gordon (pay, short runs) but not when it comes to a safe place to park your CDL, to gain experience and the quality of the trainers I met. G'nite. Thx, tow.

I say you tell us the company name to help out the new drivers so we know who to stay away from. This is a forum its here so you can vent to those of us who care. Freedom of speech.

Sorry you had such a crappy experience man, I hope it gets better for you

I think being a hostler in an LTL or even a warehouse setting is no bueno for a rookie..Hostlers have to move trailers quickly and get empties up..Nothing like waiting 10 mins for a rookie to get an empty pup up to a door to get loaded.

I guess you need someone to guide you through and nothing is wrong with that. Should have opted to go with a trainer again since your company was understanding of the situation.

Jc1971... i will strongly advise you to call a recruiter at gordon trucking

. There has been a lot said on this forum about this company but i have been here over 4 years and it is a very good company to work for.

You are not the first driver to have this type of experience and wont be the last. I have seen several come to us from england and prime that needed further training and gordon has given it to them.

When you are with a gordon trainer you will not be a team driver. Our trainers do not drive they train you and will not release you until they are confident you will be able to safely perform your duties as well as make a good living.

You will not get rich but you can have a good and safe career here.

If i can help just let me know..

I will say this again.. We need Federal Standards for training!!!

Why is everybody blaming the company?? Why is the driver (OP) not taking most of the responsibility for either not asking for more training if he felt that unconfident, or not refusing to leave with a truck on his own, even though he states he was not secure enough with himself to properly and professionally do it??? People need to start taking responsibilities for their actions these days and not laying the blame on the easiest target they could find. I would NOT hire someone with this type of history because it tells me that they cant make decisions for themselves.

We blame these company driver mills that are only interested in pumping these guys out in order to collect federal funds not properly train drivers.
Sometimes you just don't know what you don't know until you get out there.
The fact he recognized his inability and chose not to make it worse was a responsible decision.
What if he had driven and killed someone. The company told him he was ready. For all he knew this was how it was done.

Sounds to me like he trusted their judgement and drove the truck. Once he realized that it was more challenging than he anticipated he made a decision to leave before creating a dangerous situation. There also seems to be a lack of trust at this point with the company, so I don't blame him for not taking another few days of training.

What he needs is a company that he can trust, that will give him 3-6 weeks with a trainer.

So he's clearly capable of making decisions, but probably not very good at confronting.

Keep your head up, every driver out here had to start somewhere. My first run was a disaster, I got run off the road by a street sweeper!!! He was coming towards me an drifted closer an closer, I hit a big rock with the trailer tire an bent the rim almost in half. I took my lump for it and went back at it the next day, and been at it safely ever since.

There are a few good training companies out there. Roehl is one Ive heard good things about. Dont let one bad experience deter you. Try again, if you still have doubts then maybe truckingisnt for you, but at least try. Good luck!
