Ugh I messed up in the past. I'm 24 years old now, but when I was 21 I got a DUI Highest rate. Driving without a licence. Improper right turn. Then Corruption ofminors (furnishing alcohol to minors) Restriction on alcoholic beverages. Then Simple assault /harassment. That is my criminal record. Oh and I received a Theft charge last year waiting for sentencing(probation petty theft). Pretty bad and alcohol used to be a bad thing for me. Come January it will be 3 years since the conviction date. The offences happened in 2012. A bunch of companies state that they hire 3 year old Dui's. My goal is to drive across the country over the road. I want to live in the truck and live a nomadic lifestyle.
Will I ever get hired? OTR

In a word......no.
The DUI and all the other stuff is bad enough but the theft charge will kill any chance you may have had in this industry. For a good long while at least.
Just for the hell of it try western express and Carolina cargo. They're the bottom of the bottom of the barrel and will take #### near anybody with a record. If they pass on you then you know where you stand.Last edited: Jun 13, 2015

Also look on the Craig list you will find some company to hire you. Get some time in then look again for a better company!!

The Wal Mart private fleet is always looking for a few good men!!
77smartin and joseph1135 Thank this. -
Did you have your CDL when your infractions occurred? You probably are going to have to go through complete retraining again, if you did, because you were just 21 with little to no experience and now having been revoked for 3+ years it's back at square one.
My best guess is 2 more years before eligibility is reinstated but there may be someone willing to take a chance at 3. Most reputable companies require TEN years to have passed on any DUI conviction.
The more pressing question is..... Have you learned your lesson ??? -
That's a lot of stuff. Talk to Western Express or Carolina Cargo. If they say no then.....

PTL and Western Express might take a look at you. Send your apps in and talk to their recruiters.
You could also potentially find some work with a fly-by nite operation, some little company. It will be hard though. When I worked recruiting the things that were instant disqualifies for the people I worked for were:
DUI
ANY Violent Crime (Assault etc)
ANY Theft
It's going to be a tough sale, no matter who you talk to. That list reads like one enormous red flag to me.Dinomite and jammer910Z Thank this. -
Try a small family owned company or werner. The pay an atmosphere sucks at werner but you'll get some experience! I have an criminal attempted theft charge from 2012 and they were gonna take me. At the last minute I found small local company and that pays 3 times as much and you're not a number to the company. With that kind of record the biggest problem is liability and if you're insurable. Good luck

If this is a legitimate post, you need to change your behavior and show some real changes before most any company will hire you. You stated that you are currently awaiting sentencing for yet another charge of theft. Some carriers will hire applicants with a DUI once 5-10 years have elapsed after an offense. With others it is a permanent disqualification. The same with theft and assault. You won't be able to enter Canada with those in your background. That could prevent some carriers from hiring you. I would expect your to have some difficulty for several years. There is just too much in your recent past that will raise red flags to any potential employer. Drivers are responsible for tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars in product, plus the cost of the equipment. Carriers are not going to want to hire someone whom they have to worry about them stealing from them or their customers. You can speak with some of the major carriers, but I would suggest turning around your life before spending the money for school. It won't hurt to talk to carriers, but most of us will run a criminal background check before hiring new drivers. You could pull your own criminal background check and have it to send to any potential employer. Some employers will hire someone with a criminal past if the potential employee shows he has turned his life around, but that takes time.

No and you don't need to be out here with your record. That's the truth. You probably don't want to be out here either, it's just a last resort on the F-Up train.
