You're 36,000 on your drives? You just got very lucky if they let you go. DOT doesn't mail out tickets. They issue them on the spot and sometimes even make you pay them on the spot, like in Michigan.

Yea driver. You got lucky today. Dont quote me on this but I dont think there are many states that give tickets for being over weight. And even if they do, your company has to pay he infraction. Not you. I know this because I was once over weight in GA. Not because I didn't slire the tandems, but because the load was loaded wrong. I picked it up at the Lowe's DC in Valdosta... Weighed it on the scale and played with the tandems sliding them back and forth on 3 different occasions. Couldn't get the correct weight and finally just said screw. Hit I-75 North, and about an hour later, got the ticket. Thank the trucking gods and truck-on! Be Safe Out There!

Not all scalemasters are alert and awake while on duty. I've seen the asleep in their chair as I crossed the platform. If you're in the office dealing with a paperwork issue and there's just one person on duty, a truck could slip by un-noticed.

Some honor the 5 mile rule. 2000 lbs over is rare. If it was over gross it might be different. 5 Mile rule, scale it. Move it, or leave it at the scale. Call your travel agent! I left 44 cases of Mrs Butterworth syrup at a scale. I got a warning. They got 2 grand worth of product. It vanished as soon as I left, I'm sure. Old scale tactic.

they usually allow some weight to slide but anyone know the max? I know its not 2k lol
I was stopped at a scale yesterday and thought crap im going to be overweight since I didnt find a cat scale before the scale house, they asked me what I was hauling since one of my placard hinges broke off and a placard flipped so they just let me tape it then head down the road, a few miles later I went ahead and scaled my load and I was 34250 on my tandems, adjusted them some just in case I got in trouble the next time around.

And you are from LA? :)

LA will write out an inspection report and you get a ticket in the mail. Hometime present!

michael how do you forget? Burn it in your brain and get a routine down. Just because you crossed the scales doesn't mean he was paying attention. He might of been busy with another driver, a phone call, a newspaper, a nature call, lunch, figuring out how jelly got inside the donut, watching Oprah....
