I read on a thread here earlier that someone worked for PAM transport for a few months and then was fired randomly for having a speeding ticket on their driving record. They went thru the drivers solutions cdl class and had to pay back all that money. Does this happen often?
Will I get fired for having a ticket?

Did you disclose the ticket at the time of hiring? If so it should not be a problem... if it is something you fail to mention and it pops up on the background check... they tend not to like that as much.

Like KMac said....seems a lot of drivers try to "sneak" things past the screeners and interviewers when trying to land a position, THEN shocked when they get their butts sent home from orientation. They generally end up here moaning about how "unfair" XYZ Company was. I personally don't understand it, given the level of technology and the ever-decreasing amount of privacy we're all succumbing to these days.....

non disclosure is the cause for firing
unless it was 25 over in construction zone -
No having a speeding ticket will not get you fired from most of the large carriers as long as your driving record isn't too bad. I personally have an not at fault accident on my MVR and they had no problem. I got a speeding ticket in the big truck a few months ago when Iowa took my picture for not slowing down quick enough coming into a work zone. I still have my job. I still haven't been charged by the company for the ticket nor have I received anything about it at my home. I even pulled my MVR a week ago online and there was nothing on there about it.
But as others have said. Failing to inform your employer of a ticket when getting hired for a driving job will definitely get you fired. -
Having a ticket is not a big issue ... not disclosing the ticket is a huge issue.

Not disclosing a ticket to them pretty much shows them you'll lie any chance you get

In the United States of America, all employment is "At will". Unless you have a contract that states otherwise an employer does not have to give you a reason to fire you. You are also free to quit anytime you want to. So getting a speeding ticket could get you fired or it could be no big deal. It all depends on who you are and who the person making the decision to fire you is. It is important to give a company as few reasons to fire you as possible. Speeding tickets are not something that you get because you are being picked on. You did something wrong. If you get fired, deal with it.

I applied for a position at a place looking for immediate drivers and never heard anything from them (the dispatcher seemed like an ### anyways, but it paid good).
I didn't think anything of it and went on with my job.
I wanted to get an auto insurance quote since my rates for minimum coverage went up, and the quote was way lower. Went to buy the policy and they bumped up the rate after they did the background check. Turns out I have a conviction on my driving record from 7/28/11.
I got my MVR, and indeed, it was a conviction for "failure to obey sign" charge made by Frederick county sheriffs in Virginia.
The pathetic thing is it was an illegal parking violation at the Flying J in Winchester VA (I parked on the side street along with 50+ other drivers). Was woken up at 5am and issued the $95 ticket. Didn't think anything of it as it was a parking ticket (as far as I was concerned).
Turns out though that in Virginia, the charges they filed is considered a moving violation. Somehow I find it hard to understand how it's a moving violation when the ticket specifically states "sleeping" on it.
Regardless, that was over a year ago now and as far as I'm concerned it's not worth fighting it at this point.
My point is I stated I had no violations on my application. They found a violation and didnt call back even though they are still desperately looking for drivers as we speak. As long as you are up front about it they won't have too much of a problem as long as your record isn't bad.
