Hello!
Just a few questions about starting out. First I have been in sales for about 12 years. This will be very new to me. I have a few problems Ive had about 20 jobs in that 12 years. I am worried about that and also worried about my health im over weight and I am not sure about passing a hair test I went on vacation about a month ago and made a bad choice and smoked something i shoudn't of....Now I do have a perfect driving record and have never been arrested for anything. Thanks for any help!
Will I have a problem getting Hired?

Can I ask why you want to drive truck?
pattyj Thanks this. -
Nope. Hair tests go back like 3 to 6 months. And if you're worried about your health, this is not the right profession for you either.
pattyj, FLATBED and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Considering its only been a month ago doubt you'll even pass the urine test.So their's one strike against you.Your lengthy job history won't be a problem. You'll triple that if you deside to pursue this field. How overweight are you if you don't mind me asking?

Yep, and shaving all your hair off is a major red flag. I've got a no.1 butch cut on my head, so the last time I had a pre-employment drug hair test, they tested my chest hair.

patty yeah im about 5'7 260. I do not have high blood presure.

Number 1 - trucking companies look for a 10 year work history, so depending on the number of jobs in the last 10 years you might have to answer a few questions...should not be a big deal.
Number 2 - Not saying you are a habitual user, but drugs and trucks don't mix. Not every company does hair follicle testing, some only do urine since that is the DOT standard. You need to self evaluate. Ask yourself if you use that substance frequently. Then reconsider your options before you invest in a truck driving school. The last thing you want in this industry is a positive screening of any kind on your record. All of the majors will report a pre-employment positive on your record.
Number 3 - Your weight and height will make you a candidate for sleep apena screening in order to get a DOT medical card.
Good Luck! -
The Body Mass Index ( too heavy for your height ) will have you getting checked out for sleep apnea right off the bat
http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/guidelines/obesity/BMI/bmicalc.htm you would score in the 40's and Overweight = 2529.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greaterLast edited: Jan 29, 2014

With that many jobs in that relatively short period of time , you're gonna find it sort of harder than most. The Mega's might not care..but after you get past that point really good companies don't like to see a pattern like that. Plus the fact that you ain't gonna pass a drug screen urine or hair...might wanna re-think trucking....Good Luck.

I would like to add that im in no hurry to get a job. I can hold off a few months ( as far as the hair test goes ) I would like to add that my job history is all in the same field (auto sales) Not sure if that makes any difference or not. I am not a drug addict by an means. I did go on vacation out of the u.s and made a dumb choice. I have not Smoked that stuff since i was in my early 20's. I was more worried about my wieght than anything.

My suggestion would be to order a package of at home drug tests on amazon. That will only cost you about ten dollars for five of them. Despite what many will say on here, if you are not a habitual chronic user of marijuana and truthfully only smoked once or twice while on vacation it is VERY likely it will not show up in a urine test and even less likely that it will show up in a hair follicle test.
As for the other issues, I can't really comment but I can assure you that you will be fine on the drug testing if you are giving an accurate representation of your usage history.
That being said, going forward if you wish to pursue a career in the truck driving industry you are going to need to weigh your priorities and if marijuana is something you will have trouble letting go of I would highly suggest considering a different career field.
Best of luck to you
