I'm thinking of working for Werner and I was wondering if they have enough miles for all the drivers they have. Someone told me that they are a good company but I won't make much money with them because they have you sit for a day or so due to not enough loads for everyone. So I was wondering if this is true.
Will I make money with Werner?

Well I don't work for Werner and never will...I'm not a fan of very big companies like that...I don't want the 10 truck company that puts they parts on layway either...but a popular but small company is good for me...but I honestly wouldn't go with Werner because 1. They have the computer log books...so not saying you want to run illegal...but if your suppose to be doing a reset and you run a mile to get some food...then that kinda messes things up...But they pay scale is wayyyy to low...and it's just to many drivers...think about this...everywhere I go I see a Werner truck...atleast 3 at each truck stop...so if I'm waiting on a load and working for Werner...it's a 25% chance I get the next load in my area...which could result in me sitting...I think the best choice would be to go with a company that hauls they own product...That's what I"m looking into joining...

Werner's first quarter report said they reduced their fleet by 4 percent but freight drop rates still resulted in them having too many trucks and not enough freight . Yes , the drivers sit and the miles aren't there .
panhandlepat Thanks this. -
hey tre607, when I went to orentation in april in stead of doing the 275 hrs of training, you are going to wind up doing about 600 hrs instead. Oh and you will make somewhere around 300 bucks per week . I met several people that were coming in from the road and almost all were saying the same thing. They sent me home for up to ninety days to get some medical bs taken care of, and while that I was home I looked for local work . I've been hanging around this forum for quite some time now and this is the first time that I've even said anything about werner. I kinda needed a job first.

thanks everyone for your input. I'm going to look more before I make my decision but every company I looked at so far wants 1 year or more of experience and I don't have that at the moment. I get out of school in a week or so and I really need a job but at the same time I don't want to work for anybody thats gonna make me sit around waiting for a load. I can do that at home.

tre607 check out the local stuff at least till the economy picks back up. I picked up a job hauling metal scraps for 600 min per week with weekends off.

Since we're speaking of Werner here I was wondering about their account with Dollar General. If any of their drivers can give some input I was thinking of Werner simply because of the Dollar General loads that they haul out of Scottsville, KY. I live in Bowling Green and am presently employed at a Dennys right at exit 22 on I65 and I see at least 4 different Werner trucks a day. I was thinking that if I could get on with Werner AND haul DG then at least I would get more than decent time at home. Just Curious.

for the OP, it depends on what you call "much money" if ya can be happy with 500 per week or better, this is a GREAT job to get. if youer expectations are higher...KEEP ON LOOKING -
Well compared to what I'm making waiting tables at Lennys I mean Dennys $500 a week would be great. I have read all the horror stories about freight being down and drivers not making what they used to but being in the restaurant business for some twenty years and my best year making less than $20,000 and that is still being at least at the restaurant 60 to 70 hours a week and only allowed to be on the clock for 40 of those if I can bring home $500 a week right now I'll already be doing better than before.

Does anybody know of any trucking company that is willing to hire a recent graduate? I have applied to local jobs as well as with big national trucking companies and everybody wants at least 1 year of experience. The only companies I found was Swift, TMC, and Werner.
