Will I need to do the LDT test if my hazmat expired?

Your reading of the rule is the same as mine, but different from how it's being enacted. Regardless of when a driver first obtained hazmat, if the driver allows it to lapse they must complete ELDT (hazmat only).

My hazmat lapsed in May of 2022 and I went to get it back in June of 23. Took the test, went back to the counter and the clerk couldn't get it to go through. Manager was called over, she thought it might have something to do with ELDT, so she called someone in Madison who was also confused as to why the computer was asking for ELDT proof. At that point I figured it was easier just to spend $25 and an hour of my time on an ELDT course.

The way it's being interpreted is that any lapse will require ELDT.

Got my hazmat in WA state in I think late 2023/early 2024 and had to do the stupid ELDT scam.

I've had hazmat continually since 1983... I have never had to do that and just renewed in February... one of my drivers let his lapse for a while and had to take the test... I have no idea how long his was out. good luck

Well I shouldn’t be affected then. I simply downgraded to normal Class A with tanker.
